Ok, so here's the problem: I really enjoy fashion and am considering a job at a retail clothing store or possibly best buy or a coffee shop. The problem is i have been applying and everywhere i have applied said they are only hiring for closing shifts which means getting out at 10:30 or later!!!! This wouldnt really be a problem but i dont have my license and i dont have money to pay for a car to begin with so the only way i can work is if i have my parents drive me and my mom REFUSES to pick me up later than 9:00!!! How can i explain this to an employer so i can get a job???? Please help me!!!
Thanks to everyone who answered!!!

The best answer is to be honest and strait to them. Tell them upfront what you can and can't do if they have agreed to hire you after an interview they will most likely be willing to work with your situation. If they aren't well move on to another job. By the way since your into fashion a great job that I think are hiring about now is fabric stores. If you design clothes yourself this a great way to get a discount on your fabrics. I know, I work for a Jo-Ann fabric store in Colorado and we're starting to hire for Halloween and Xmas. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, they probably can't hire you for an earlier shift because those postions are already full. They just don't have room anywhere in the schedule except for the closing shifts ~ and fewer people want those shifts, that's why there's a position to fill at that time. The people that already work there have seniority, and will get to choose their shifts before a new person. There is a slim chance that you could talk one of those employees into switching shifts with you, but it's probably not going to happen.
Keep looking for work, there must be something you can do earlier in the day! And good luck! :)

You could always find a job that will work no later than 9.
But if you can't, ask one of your co-workers that run the shift with you to give you a ride home!
And until you get your lisence and a car to drive, just work the shifts the your mom can pick you up at and ask your co-workers to give you a lift!!!
Have fun at your new job!

Um you could like ride the bus or try to pressure your mom to pick you up. Promise her something like "ill try to find another job but meanwhile could you pick me up so I can make some money" try to convince your mom to drop you off because its unlikely that the employer will try to change schedules just to hire you. I mean there will probably be people who wont have any problems working you shifts. Hope I helped!!

Unfortunately, the person hiring you doesn't care to accommodate you, since you're there to accommodate them. If you cannot arrange a ride with your mother, work close to home so you can walk or ride a bike. Otherwise, see how late mass transit runs in your town and take the bus.

Dont get hung up on what you cant do. Instead think about what you can do and go after that job. There are a ton of jobs out there and if you can not find one then the problem might be with you.

Just tell them the way it is. Maybe if they give you a chance with a "mid shift", you could save up, buy a car, and work closing shifts at that time.
Good Luck!

You won't be able to get the job if you can't work the hours. Retail jobs are low paid so you may want to reconsider that as a career and go for something that has better hours, wages and benefits.

until you can save up for the car, find a another way to get back from work, once your in, is easier to get transfer to a better shift, if your good at what you do. so make the extra effort.
