Neutering will mellow out your guys. They won't have a scar, There just won't be anything there where the scrotum used to be. I just had my 5 month old kitten neutered Friday and he never missed a beat. He didn't have any painkillers. It was rougher for my female who was spayed Friday as well. No worries! You'll be glad you had it done. They won't spray or roam off to find females.
I don't know how much you know about neutering but they will have to stay overnight at the vet so you won't be dealing with them straight from surgery. There are no stitches to remove. You just take them home the next day and let them be. Some want to rest while others (like my Willie) just don't give a hoot.

All our 4 cats are neutered. The first 3 we arranged to be neutered as we've had them since kittens, the fourth was adopted as an adult.
To be honest, it's the best thing we ever did as they've become more affectionate than before, and we know that it has given them a longer life expectancy.
During the operation, the cats are asleep. It doesn't last long, a matter of minutes, as it's a simple procedure but the cats won't feel a thing. Afterwards, they will be given enough painkillers so that they will feel no pain for 24 hours. After that time, the pain has gone anyway. You shouldn't have to give them anything special as your vet will do that. The only thing you'll have to give is a special bland diet once you get your cats home. If the vet doesn't supply this, then some plainly cooked white fish or chicken mixed with white boiled rice is ideal.
There will be no scars left as the fur will grow back. It's not a big incision anyway, only the length of the scrotal sac.

One has testicles, and the other doesn't, that's the only difference - one is capable and willing to contribute to the over population of cats and the other isn't.
Castration does not change a cat's personality. They will be the same afterwards. It's not a hugely painful op believe it or not - they will receive pain relief, and if you're worried about them you can have some to take home with you but it shouldn't be necessary. They will be quiet and groggy for the rest of the day, but back to normal by the next day. The kitten in particular will bounce back quick, and may even be back to normal by the time you take him home!
They do not get scars, there aren't even any stitches involved. It's just a tiny incision, out pop the testicles and they're tied off and cut.
So, no changes in personality. Castration only removes sexual behaviour - and for a male cat, that is only the desire to roam to find a mate. Oh, and the adult cat's urine won't stink anymore! They'll still be the same cats, and you will have done them, and the rest of the cat population, a favour.

Big differences, and almost all positive. It is painful for a brief time, but the vet will use an anesthetic and your cats will feel very little pain. It's a simple and easy procedure. No scarring that you will ever see, and no pain killers needed -- as far as I know, there are no pain killers for cats (aspirin and Tylenol and Advil and the like will kill them, and I don't know of any reliable cat painkillers per se, though someone else may). Their behavior will change: calmer, more loving, and far less aggressive, and best of all, they won't impregnate female cats and create unwanted litters. Careful with their feeding, as neutered males tend to get fat. All in all, neutering them is a great idea.

There is a BIG difference in a good way. The neutered male would be more calm less wild and it wouldn't roam after females which is a good thing. Do not give it pain killers. After the surgery it would lie down and sleep more. After a week all this sleeping will go away. They do no get scars but the but would look different. Ooh and the male wouldn't spray places anymore.

Male cats that are not neutered, or intact, spray ( for marking) a malodorous scent all over. They also get into lots of fights with other intact males over the rights to mate, if they are outside. Neutered males have no more sexual urges, no spraying, and many get along with other neutered males. The surgical procedure is about 5 minutes long, with a very quick recovery. I think it makes them have the mindset of a ' kitten' forever, with no grown-up cat problems !

All of my cats are "fixed" I had them done either through the Neuter Scooter or my Vet, who I must say is excellent! I received pain meds from both but only one of the girls and one boy had to have them. As for changes, I really don't see any except they are very lovable! I don't see any scars either. I Believe fixing them is the best thing you can do for your pet! In some way they will show you how much they appreciate it! Congrats on being sensitive to how the cat will feel!

The thing I liked the most about getting my male cat neutered was that he no longer "marked his territory" with his scent. We had other animals at the time and it was becoming a pain. He no longer did that after I got him "fixed" lol

They remove the testicles so the cat or whatever animal it is can not reproduce.
No scars, they heal just fine.
Neutering decreases risk of prostate cancer and elimates risk of testicular cancer.
It reduces agression and chance of the animal running away when a mate comes near.
Neutered cats and dogs also don't spray mark inside the house.
