It depends on the bank. My bank will let me go negative for a small amount and charge me an overdraft fee. This is good for the bank because it get them fees and its good for the customer because it give them some emergency money. The idea is that, in an emergency and the customer needs to buy some gas at midnight to get home, he would rather have an overdraft fee than have to walk for hours to get home.

If you have less in the bank than the charge you are trying to make, the card will be declined.

If you have enough for that transaction, but several other pending transactions, the charge will go through but then the account will be overdrafted.

It depends on how much it will overdraft. Bank of America does NOT always deny it, they usually accept it and overdraft you. I use New Alliance Bank and they will overdraft you. Liberty Bank as well.

All banks are different. I use Bank of America and if I don't have enough funds in my account, the purchase I am trying to make gets not authorized.
