i feed my dogs chicken soup for the dog lover's soul. it is a good food and it is a lot better than what some of u have said. like the person who said pedigree. just curious. what is "designer" dog food. if ur talking about things like canidae and what i feed my dog then u r sadly mistaken. these dog foods r a hell of a lot better for ur dog than pedigree. just compare the ingredients. have u ever even looked at the label on that crap u feed ur dog

I feed a BARF (bones and raw foods or Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods) diet and supplement with high quality kibble (Wellness, Solid Gold, Innova) as treats.

I find my dogs are more competitive in the show ring and more healthy when I feed this type of diet.

I have 3 Poms ~ one being 16 yrs old and the other 2 being 3 1/2 yrs old. I found myself purchasing dog food; one for seniors and one for active dogs.

Not a problem for the most part but then my senior Pom would always end up eating the others dog food and the others would end up eating his.

So, after doing alot of research I found 1 dog food that I can feed to all 3 ~ Canidae all life stage formula. Of course the main reason I feed them this brand is not just for the nutritional factors but for their overall health;

Canidae:
Main protein sources are Chicken, Turkey, Lamb
Skin and coat conditioners
Balanced Omega 6&3 fatty acids
Enzyme activity to help break down cellulose
Antioxidant vitamins and Amino acid chelated minerals.

All 3 of my dogs love it and I can feel good about feeding my dogs something that I know is good not just health wise but physically as well...

I try to feed Canidae canned as much as possible. It is the best brand on the market made with human grade ingredients and high in protein. I don't live near a dealer that sells it, so I have to special order it at the vet's clinic. If I can't get it shipped in before I run out then I feed Hills Science Diet canned puppy. It is easy to get from my vet and is made from domestic ingredients. I go through about three cases of canned food a week and a large bag of Hills Science diet Kibble every two weeks.

I feed my dog dry Solid Gold Hund-n-Flocken Adult Dog Food. It also can be purchased as canned. Some people mix canned food in with dry, but my dog does not like canned food, which is fine with me, especially since dry is better for her teeth. Both the dry and canned came in several varieties and flavors and I'm adding a couple of links in case you want to learn more about it.

It is one of several brands of holistic dog foods that contain, no corn, wheat, soy, artificial coloring, additives or chemical preservatives or fillers of any kind.

It's an excellent food, especially if your dog suffers from allergies. The most common causes of allergies in dogs are soybeans (#1), wheat (#2), and corn (#3). These ingredients should be avoided as they can cause digestive problems, chronic licking at the feet, persistent ear infections and chewing at the feet and base of the tail.

Some people may think that it's a little pricey, but it really isn't in the long run because she now eats less as it is more filling. Also, when she has bowel movements, they are much smaller and firmer because more of the food is digested and and there is not nearly as much waste to clean up every day :-)

Sorry for leaving such a long answer, but I hope this helps you. Good luck with your report/poll.

Over the decades of having multiple dogs, breeding and showing in conformation, and now doing agility..the "best dog food" issue has been something I have always pondered.

We rotate kibble, and combine.

At the moment we feed a combo of EVO and Eagle Pack Holistic Sardine (for the fish content). We also rotate with Chicken Soup and Innova, and have used Wellness fish and potato.

Why.......Because we can readily purchase them and...We pick the brands of food almost more by what IS NOT in it.......no wheat, corn, soy, ethoxyquin......

Also add a spoon of canned dog food (evo, evangers usually) and on occasion an egg, cottage cheese, yogurt

and supplement with Cetyl-M for joints

I research as I can, check on the yahoo group for info.....and watch our dogs to see how they are doing

I feed Wellness Core because I am a dog food fanatic and only want healthy food. The commerical foods like Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba Purina etc are disgusting and have way too many preservatives and poor ingredients. I like Wellness Core because it is 100% GRAIN FREE and dogs are carnivores, It has NO PRESERVATIVES, it uses 5 USDA grade meats and has the omegas in it. My dogs have better coats, leaner muscle, they love it because of all the meat and it has reduced my dogs allergies to nothing.

I feed my dogs Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. The reason I feed this is that it is good for my dogs and they like it.

I feed Innova EVO red meat because I read on the internet (and here) that it was good quality food. Its main ingredients are meat instead of crummy grains. My parents' dog eats Kirkland Lamb & Rice because other foods irritate her and it's at Costco (I'm guessing)

I feed my dogs Pedigree. I have fed this food for 11 years and my dogs do well on it, and are healthy according to my vet. As to why I went with that food, I am not sure. I used to feed Eukanuba and Science Diet and felt it was no better than any other food out there. Besides, with my two dogs I'd never be able to afford to feed my kids with all the "designer" dog food that I'd be spending money on.

I feed my dogs Technical. There is little waste to clean up, they have healthy shiny coats and it is relatively cost effective. The bonus for me is that I have dogs that have various needs and Technical has a formula for each.
