one moment you feel confident, like life is great, so much to do, see ,experience, then the next moment, it all seems so hopeless, lonely, so pointless....
is this a medical condition? or is it something everyone has gone through?

Looks like a crisis period in life, when you start to revise your life, change your priorities... Difficult time, there are about 5 in life, 3-4 years, teenage, 20-25, 40-45 and if you're still alive you can have one when you're rather old. Looks like your case? It's not forever and you need to be careful and don't make stupid changes in your life (typical for such periods). you feel so unsatisfied with your life, yourself... Believe in yourself, love your life, value what you've got and you'll be fine.

I have this problem too. I actually was just diagnosed with bipolar disorder. You might want to go to your doctor and explain in detail your symptoms. There is a possiblility that you could be bipolar, too. If not, you might even be able to chalk it up to hormones or going through a bad spell in life.
