as i am 31 i would'nt like to get traditional metal braces and invisalign is way to expensive,so i was thinking of ceramic braces.does anyone knows any disadvantages of ceramic braces?i have heard that few years back they would crack while removing and they take longer to move the teeth than normal metal braces......etc,but is it still the same or do we have improvements?
with best regards.

I have ceramic braces on top and metal on the bottom. I am glad I opted for ceramic because they really are less noticeable. As for downsides, the only one I would have to say is if the ligatures stain. The ceramic braces themselves don't stain, only the rubber bands. However, I don't drink coffee or tea, so that is not a problem for me. Ceramic braces are a little more difficult to remove than metal, but it is not something that can't be done. Also, they move teeth just as quick and efficiently as metal. The reason for this is the fact that in the middle of the ceramic bracket is a metal thing, so the wire doesn't rub against the ceramic, hence making treatment the same as with metal. I say go for the ceramic!!

I had braces bout 2 yrs ago so what i tell you is accurate. 1. It does not hurt when they are putting the braces on your lip may get chapped and thats gonna hurt a bit but nothing really bad. After however it may hurt for a few days and eating will be hard to do because your mouth will be sore. For food i reccomend oatmeal and some fruit smoothies, yogurt, foods that require either little or no chewing. 2. Their just going to be focusing on your mouth it's really not as bad as you think it won't be scary their just gonna use this blue light thing to glue the brackets onto the front of each tooth then their gonna put it some wires. Then theyll probably cut the wires at the back because they may be a little too long it's painless you don't feel a thing then their gonna have your pick the color of the bands that are going to go on your braces and thats it. 3. You can eat some candy like chocolate but stay away from the hard candies and caramel and peanut butter u can probably have a peanut butter cup but no peanut butter nd jelly sandwhiches and no gum. 4. Yes they'll know from the tartar bulid up that the sugar from the candy left behind on your braces. 5. I had my braces on for 2 years and thats if you do everything they tell you to like wearing the rubber bands and stuff. 6. It's not really hard to talk with braces it'll just feel weird in the beginning you may drool a bit but nothing to bad. To keep your braces and your teeth clean and healthy i reccomend Brushing after EVERY meal even snacks flosing EVERY night and using a good mouth wash NOTE:THEY WILL TELL YOU THIS MOST LIKELY ASK THEM ABOUT KEEPING YOUR TEETH CLEAN

Hi, I'm 47 years old and I'm going to be getting braces in a few weeks too. I just had my consultation with my Ortho yesterday and we decided on the non-ligating braces for me. They will be all metal but, I think, they will be easier for me to take care of. I also drink coffee and I don't see me giving that up any time soon. LOL Anyway, the best thing to do is talk to your Ortho and tell them your concerns. That way you can come to an informed decision about which braces are right for you.

Hi I'm 23 I'm getting braces next week I'm getting ceramic at the top and metal at the bottom this is the standard package that my orthodontist suggests for adults. i didn't really care what i had at first but the more i think about it the happier i am about getting ceramic at the top. i don't drink much coffee or red wine so I'm not worried about them getting stained.

I am a Hygientist and 32 years old and I just finished ortho for the 2nd time in my life (Wear your retainer!!) I was not a candidate for Invisalign and did not want metal for cosmetic reasons. Because I am realistic about the amount of coffee and red wine I drink, I decided against fixed clear braces since they can stain. So I shelled out a few more bucks and opted for the porcelain brackets. They were just slightly larger brackets but unless you really looked, you couldn't notice them.

Good luck, be ultra compliant, and brush and floss like crazy and you will be quite happy.

go with the metal - they are the best by far. the ceramic discolor and they look disgusting. all clear discolor. metal looks the best by far, works the best by far.
