Why do family members find it easier to help friends than their own family members? And then come back to you (the family member who they didn't help) and ask for help because the same friends that they helped aren't able to come through for them.

That's a tough one isn't it. Unfortunately, many families are kinder to other people than they are to their own blood. I think it's because they feel others appreciate them more. Family knows to much about each other. They know if somebody tries to help themselves or not. They have opinions of whether a family member deserves another chance. They tend to be in each other's business to much and therefore, they form opinions (right or wrong). And they're afraid if they help them once then the family member will expect it every time. They can help a friend and if it doesn't work out, they can just walk away. Of course, they're not any happier.

I don't know how many times I have got screws from some of my family. They owe me money they have never repaid, and think they should never have to repay money or other favors back. I gave up on trying to help them in any way a long time ago. If I have anything for sale they think i should give it to them. If they borrow a personl item of mine I never see it agin. And other people I talk to say they have had the same problems with family members also. Nobody can screw you around like family.

Most likely they are coming to you because they know, unlike the friends they once helped, you will not judge them. Sometimes you just want someone you trust and know will be on your side to just be there, no questions asked...without judgement. Maybe when you needed help and they didn't help, it was because they felt you were much stronger and more independent. They felt you really didn't need their help but couldn't express that sentiment in the proper context.

I guess its a fact of life that eludes us all.

I guess I'm lucky in the fact that most of my family members would move a mountain to help me, and I would for them.

Ahh.... this is life! I think it's a test... how much can you forgive? Take the high road and show them how it's done. You'll feel good about it and maybe they'll see the light. Then again, maybe they won't... but in the end it's about you and how you handle things, not about them and how they don't appreciate you.

accept the fact the you're never cautious with your family members feeling because you're sure that they're going to understand no matter what... and you are afraid to loose friends.

That's called life sweety!! That not so uncommon as u may think. Different reasons for it too, but the main 2 I think is self-centeredness and misplaced sense of loyalty.
