Cat Fancy is a great source. And I love Himalayans, one of my favorite cats (now since departed) was a beautiful female Himmy. But why go for a breed? There is a wonderful array of little abandoned cats just waiting for you to take one (or two -- cats need playmates) home at the shelter and local cat adoption organizations. They need you.

Edit: Forget about studs for your females in heat. Help them ride it out (keep them in an enclosed place) and then get them spayed once they are through their cycle. You don't sound like a professional breeder, so you shouldn't be interested in breeding your housecats. They hate being in heat. Get them fixed and drop the idea of breeding them. Why? Go to the shelter and count how many abandoned and lonely cats are down there. Instead of bringing yet another litter into the world, take one or two of these abandoned babies home with you.

Hey catvicious,

I don't know, offhand, where you can find a breeder in NC.

But I know a pretty easy way to find one - buy a copy of Cat Fancy magazine. The back is chock full of breeder listings. They are listed in order of breed, so it should be real easy to find one.

If you do get a pedigree from a breeder, why don't you also get a kitty from a shelter, too. They can play together, plus you'll have saved one life.

Usually, my wife & I get our kitties from shelters, but she wanted a Snowshoe after our last 2 kitties died (of old age - 17 years). So, she got the pedigree. Then we went to a shelter to find a roommate for the Snowshoe. She's a...? breed...gorgeous cat. We love them both equally.

Have you tried www.google.com with the words "Himalayan breeders North Carolina" in the search box?

Other than that, a copy of Cat Fancy at the bookstore's magazine rack would have a listing in their back pages of all breeders who put an ad in there.
