Well it depends on what the illness is doesn't it?

General signs of illness would be going off food and being lethargic (lazy). He might also have vomiting and/or diarrhoea, or perhaps be sneezing or coughing.

Any unusual signs might be cause for concern. If ever you are worried about an animal, do yourself a favour and don't waste time on here - consult a vet.

When a puppy acts abnormally (refusing food or water, throwing up/diarrhea), lethargy (not playing, moving around much), it's time to ca;ll the vet. Foul discharge from the nose or behind is another sign.

Depends on the sickness. It could be throwing up, diarherra, really tired etc. If your puppy is acting strange, try taking it to the vet as soon as possible, illness is best treated in the early stages.

usually ears are back, not playful, diarrhea, loss of appetite, blood in stool, coughing or making a choking sound which indicates possible kennel cough. All around sluggish.
Puppies sleep alot so if it is just that he seems tired, this is normal, any of the other symptoms indicated would be wise to have him looked at.

If he's sleepy, doesn't wanna eat or play, if he throws up or has diarrhea, if he has discharge from his nose and eyes, if he drinks to much water... These are the first signs that tells you your dog is sick, so the next step is a trip to the vet's.
