I saw a video regarding this a while back and have to say that it looked fabulous! ....

Step One: Move your cat's litterbox into the bathroom - right next to the toilet is the best place, if the litter box will fit! (It may be a good idea to switch to a flushable litter before moving the litterbox, so later in the process you don't have plumbing problems and your cat is used to the new litter)

Step Two: After your cat has been using the litterbox in the bathroom consistently, get a sitz bath (a bowl thing that fits inside the toilet and is used to soak hemorroids in) and use that as the new litterbox on the floor in the same location as the old litterbox.

Step Three: When your cat has finally accepted the sitz bath as his new litterbox (should only take a few days), tape or screw a toilet seat to the top of it, but keep it on the floor. That way your cat gets used to standing on a toilet seat. If your cat is scared of it, try sprinkling a little catnip in the litter to encourge your cat to check it out!

Step Four: Put the sitz bath in the real toilet under your real toilet seat and put your cat in it and let him/her jump out - that way he/she knows where the new litterbox location is. Also, tape the toilet seat lid to the tank, so it doesn't accidentally fall onto the cat and scare it from ever going up there again! If your cat isn't taking to this step, try sprinkling some cat nip into the litter.

Step Five: When your cat has accepted jumping onto the toilet seat as an acceptable means of using the litterbox, punch a small hole in the center of the sitz bath; about 2-3 inches in diamater. This will allow your cat to get used to the idea that there is water underneath him/her while doing his/her business. (Now, here is where using the flushable litter will start to pay off!)

Step Five: You're almost there!!!! ... Now, every 3-7 days, depending on how quickly your cat is adapting to the changing situation, make the hole in the sitz bath slightly bigger. Then one day you'll realize that it can't get any bigger and your furry child is using the toilet as his litterbox!!!

Good Luck!! Hope all goes well!

Toilet training a cat involves the use of a special bag that fits between the rim and seat of your commode. You can do this yourself with a strong garbage bag and weighting the ends so your kitty doesn't accidentally fall in. It also helps to wrap a hand towel around the seat so the cat doesn't slip.

Cats are generally ridiculously clean animals (more so than my ex-husband anyway) and can learn to use the toilet with simply showing him/her where the litter is located. Rewarding your kitty for proper usage reinforces the habit in a positive way. You may have to coax him/her the first time to jump up there, but that's easily accomplished with a food bribe.

Believe it or not my mom had 2 cats that trained themselves. I walked by the bathroom one morning and heard a tinkle. Stopped, knew my mother was asleep and there was Bootsy sitting on the toilet sideways, tail up and a perfect aim.

Here are a few links (Google 'cat toilet train' for more). I might just try it out with our new kitten!

Dig the cats paws with your hands in the litter. Do this a couple times then when it needs to go to the bathroom take it to the litter box. Its that simple.
