I want to avoid flying. Are there any cruises that exist that let you depart and return to the, let's say, East Coast? I have only found a few that depart from the East Coast period, and all of them are "one-way" and would result in me buying a plane ticket from Europe back to the US...

thats an "ocean liner" as opposed to a cruise ship. these ocean liners do the transatlantic routes.

I agree with Tivogal about Cunnard.
There was one of their ships that only did NY/Soton, Soton/NY.
It was a nightmare for people who worked there, but if you don´t wanna fly...
I think it was the QE II, but I could be wrong.
Silverseas is amazing too but I think for crossings, Cunnard is the way to go.
