My doctor, just today, said my hideous head to toe rash is due to possible flea bites yet my pups and kits do not have any true signs of fleas, I even checked all the areas they collect (ears, feet, rump.)
Any advice, I have 5 dogs and 3 cats and want to avoid a costly vet visit just to find out I can treat fleas with OTC products or that they are flea free.
Thanks and blessings.

When you look through your animal's fur, you're really searching for flea dirts (poos) - little black spiral shaped specks. You don't always see the actual live fleas, but the flea dirts are the number one sign.
You could comb them through with a flea comb and check the hair on the comb for flea dirts. You can also comb them over some wet white paper - any flea dirts will fall off and turn red, because they are of course digested blood.
Unless you're treating your animals regularly with a treatment from a vets (pet shop treatments are worthless) it's quite likely they have fleas. Indoor animals are not safe from them, fleas enter houses in search of a meal. Instead of wondering, I would just get some Frontline or the like from your vets and treat them regularly - and spray your house, because if your pets do have them, 95% of the flea population will be living in your house!
Keep in mind that there is a species of human flea that will be much more interested in YOU than your pets. This is assuming your doc is right about the cause of the rash - but right or wrong, get your pets treated even if they don't have fleas, because prevention is better than cure!

First off, I do not know of any fleas which are white. It seems like dry epidermis (dandruff) on his coat. Part the hair in a number of areas and appear at his epidermis... do you notice any black spots? This is dried blood that's more often than not known as flea dust (poop). See the reference underneath for information at the flea and its existence cycle. Even although a vet consult with will price greater than a consult with to the groomer, I could decide on the vet at this factor. A puppy's epidermis may be very distinct than a human's (most effective 2 layers, no sweat glands, and so forth.) and epidermis issues can motive plenty of ache. I would not wait very lengthy... if the epidermis is compromised from scratching, then an contamination can set in. I could warning you approximately making use of a couple of flea remedies... they're pesticides (translated- poison) which fluctuate in toxicity and will have additive results. Your vet is the great man or woman to verify what's going on and endorse a therapy software for each your puppy and your house (for those who do certainly have a flea crisis). If this is a epidermis crisis, he can supply you a few meds (cortisteroids, and so forth.) that may support.

Put the pet that is easiest for you to handle on a white surface (towel, paper, counter top, whatever). Rough up the hair vigorously and take note if any tiny brown specks fall off that are in the shape of little commas. If so, that pet has fleas, and if they share any living space with your other pets, then ALL your pets have fleas. Flea shampoos and Frontline are both OTC, and you should commence use of them immediately!

Normally, if your dog has fleas, the signs are very outward. You see little bugs running through their fur and red patches of skin, and of course a lot of itching. All I can recommend is giving them Front Line if they're not already on it, and cleaning out the house. Make sure to vacuum the carpet and pet beds extra well, and other problem areas that the pets play in or that fleas would be okay in.

Just get flea medicine anyway and use it on your animals and if the rash continues you can say that rash is not from fleas. And if your dog itches that does not mean he has fleas dogs itch that lady doesn't know what shes talking about.

Place them under a flash light at night
or take them into a dark room and use a flash light .. Look where the behind is and the Shoulder blades are .
Also turn them , on their back and look at the lower stomach almost near the private areas and that will tell you too!
