I am anemic, and I have been since birth. At my last physical It worsened, and during gym class there are instances where I get incredibly lightheaded (to the point of almost fainting), and my vision goes completely white and stays like that for 5 seconds at the least.

What's going on here?

Most of the time I have to stand still or sit down and blink a lot until I can see again, and this can happen lots of times in one period.

Well. My mother is always in the room with me when I get my physical and whenever I try to describe my symptoms to my doctor she just makes a comment like I'm exaggerating or its not a big deal.

I was prescribed an iron supplement, but my mother refused to get it for me.

it is likely due to anoxia, lack of oxygen, if you don't have enough red blood cells to carry enough oxygen to the brain, then you experience the symptoms you describe. I would say you are dangerously anemic at this point and should see a doctor asap.

How old are you? Does your mother control the money? Then she needs to make sure you get what you need. Do you have insurance that will pay for the prescription? Take your card and the prescription to the pharmacy and get it. Tell your mother you don't want her in the office during your physical. She needs to be making sure you get healthy and stay that way. A mother that doesn't see to her child's needs is commiting abuse.

As a healthcare provider I can tell you that you are describing what goes on before people pass out. Medical term: Presyncopal episode. I am more concerned about your ongoing anemia. What medical intervention is going on the address this? Are you seeing a provider......maybe you need to see a hematologist (a doctor who specialized in blood disorders)?

One of three main reasons: 1- Excessive (or lower) blood pressure - and blood sugar as well 2- Ulcer starting 3- Temporary food poisoning If its gone forget about it, it could have been food poisoning. If it is recurring regularily, and specifically morning time, check for stomach Ulcer. If occasionnally and with no special reason except fatigue or stress, check for blood pressure.

You are correct - not a normal sign... See your doctor he should prescribe some Ferris Fumerate (High Stregnth Iron) and that should help. It can cause stomach upsets and a gentler form of Iron could help.
