He's 5 months old and is very hyper. He loves water ( what cat loves water?) and he likes to put his paw in his bowl and throws the water everywhere. He attacks everyone all the time, claws and bites everything as well. I got him when he was 6 months old and he was very calm but now he's a mess. WHAT CAN I DO?? Help!

All great answers. He's going to get fixed next month. He likes being in the water. He's funny like that. He also has more toys than my kids so I don't know. He knows what No means but he still does things anyways. Well thanks everyone!

Actually, lots of cat love, love, love to play with water!

About 5 months is when they are their most rambunctious. Play with him to tire him out. Run around the house with a very long shoe string, Get thoese wands with toys at the end and make your little kitty jump for the toy. Playing chase the string is the best at wearing them out. Oh, some kits will actually play fetch with those small, soft fuzzy balls. That way he runs while you sit! : )

There are two things to do about the clawing and biting: 1) Tell everyone in the house to yelp and immediately pull away whenever he does this. That is how a kitten learns from hi mom and siblings when they play too hard. 2) Get several water bottles and place them all over the house so that you always have one near. Whenever he claws or bites items inappropriately, spray him. If you do this consistently, you'll find that you can even get away with just making a noise like a sprayer bottle (psst! psst!) and he'll stop what he is doing.

He really is most likely at his rowdiest right now. He'll calm down again. He is just being a normal kitty.

PS Get him neutered next month! That will help to keep him a calm male, too.

I had a cat like that - she would jump into the bathroom sink everytime I walked in there and mew at me till I turned it on. Then she would play play play and drink it up. Silly cat! ;) She was also a bit of a voyeur and loved to watch humans taking showers. heheh

As for the hyperness, yep - what everyone else said - kittens will be kittens. I didn't need the water bottles with my kitty, I just hiss at her when she is misbehaving and that works pretty well. Don't ever "spank" tho - cats don't understand human behaviours like spanking. Violence is violence and it will do you ill to do something like that. Your kitty will benefit more from positive reinforcement. Encourage behaviors you approve of with loving and petting, discourage bad behavior by removing the kitten from your leg holding the scruff like his mama and putting him in another room while saying firmly "No!".

my loving cat attacked people when he was a kitten (he still does from time to time at 2 1/2 yrs old) It seems he just being a kitten and you have to teach him that clawing and biting are not behaviours that you wish him to exhibit. Your cat is not the only cat that likes water, I had a cat that use to take baths with me!

Nothing unusual there. Get him some toys he just has a bit too much energy at this stage.
Lots of cats like to play with water - they just don't like being IN water !

Er, I'm afraid that all sounds like 100% normal cat behaviour! There's nothing you can do about it - it's just how cats are, enjoy it!

Is he neutered? He ought to be - not that it will calm him down any!

Is the breed a Maine Coon? Maine Coons love to swim. I'm not kidding.
