I think in Daycare a child will learn a lot of social skills as well as the foundations for school learning. However, emotionally I think a child that young would do best at home with their parent (s). In my opinion I think you should keep your kids home as long as you can, they will be influenced enough by the outside world in good time. Right now it's important for you to instill your values and beliefs into your child while you still are the biggest influence for them. If you're worried about how much they're not learning at home, maybe take them to toddler classes, or daycare a couple afternoons a week instead of fulltime. Hope my advice helps your desicison!

I NEVER thought I would ever put any kids I have in the future in daycare until I started working at one. I am only 18, and I have been working at this daycare for a little over a year, and I would DEFINITELY put my child in daycare. I used to think that putting your child in daycare was lazy, but now I realize that kids have FUN there and gain so many social skills. I personally wouldn't put them in full time, but a few days a week is very good for them, I believe. But make absolutely certain that you find a daycare that you trust and feel good about, if you do decide to put your kid in daycare.

A child learns heaps in a stimulated environment so if you have a stimulating home with heaps for him/her to do then daycare wouldn't be necessary if you didn't want however in daycare they do learn socialising skills and how to be away from their parents.

My son was 3 and a half before he went anywhere and he is one of the smartest kids in his class. So I wouldn't think that a child would learn more in daycare at that age you can teach him/her all they need to know at home :-)

I have heard that it is better for boys to be at home with their mothers longer than girls. I don't think daycare is necessary at this stage unless your both ready for something new perhaps 2 days a week would be a good start. Or you could put him/her in a homebased care facility where he or she goes to a qualified care givers home the ratio is 4 kids to 1 adult and it's a great learning environment for young children being in a caring nurturing environment.

Good Luck with what ever you decide

I believe that it really depends in your own preference. My daughter is 2 years old and loves going to daycare. She does crafts everyday, reads books, goes on field trips, she has really excelled with her social interaction. There are times when she asks to go to daycare on the weekends. If you find a good daycare to enrol your child in than I would definitely recommend it at least a couple of times a week. It's nice going to work and knowing that your child is in capable hands. Daycare staff now have to have two years of post secondary education and a criminal record check done before they can even be hired.

As for learning more it really depends on if the child is is getting the same opportunities that she would in daycare (social interaction, etc.). If I had the opportunity I would want to stay at home with my daughter and take her a couple of times a week.

I don't think there is any right answer here. This is totally up to the parents. Some people don't even send their children to pre-school and they do just as well and better than those that were in pre-school or daycare. It is important to be sure your child is getting socialization skills some how if they are kept at home wither it is just play visits or going to the park and interacting with other kids.

Depends on the child and his/her family. Personally my choice is to have him stay home as long as we can afford it and he's happy and healthy. However, there are risks and benefits to both. Again personally, my feeling is there is learning whether your child is at daycare or at home - it's a matter of what kind. "School" learning I don't tend to worry about - we work it in with fun but everyday things and there's plenty of time for him to be a kid - he'll get enough school once he starts kindergarten. Socializing, however, I make sure happens.

Good luck! (:

Well, I do think a 2 year old would benifit from a few half days a week in a daycare/preschool setting. For example, I think two mornings a week would be great.

That way they can have the best of both worlds.

No, children learn best from their parents. I always wonder why people put kids in daycare when they really don't have to. I know some have no other choice, and would rather not, but as for those that choose to have their kids in daycare for convenience, why'd they have kids in the first place only to have other people raise them?

That depends on your individual situation, the needs of you, your child, your family, your job, health of the child, daycare availability/ability. I don't think there is an across the board answer for that.
For me, I had to put my child in daycare because both me and my spouse worked, grandparents were not available, and I had an excellent facility to put her in.

For their health it is better to stay at home so they don't catch every cold that goes around at daycare. It is good for kids to be around other kids their age, but at 2 years old you can teach them just as much if not more than the daycare staff. I say stay at home if you can!!
