Yes it does, it is a part of human evolution that did not change. Muscles becomes a source of energy source 1st, and then fat for fuel.

You start digesting your brain first. Really. You don't need to be able to do a math problem to keep your heart and lungs working.

But of the two you cited? Fat.

the body will store fat, it will consume muscle and bone tissue before it will use fat, if you are not eating.
