I've seen people in bathroom rest stops barefoot and that is so unsanitary.

I have a thing about my feet. I can't STAND being barefoot anytime, anyplace. I'm pretty much barefoot in the shower and in bed, and that's it. In fact, my husband teases me because the FIRST thing I put on after showering is some sort of foot covering. (Socks, slippers, etc.) It's like an obsessive-compulsive thing for me.
Eeeech. The idea of going barefoot in a public restroom freaks me out--makes my skin crawl.

I go barefoot everywhere, have for over ten years and I don't intend to wear footwear ever again. It is NOT unsanitary! My skin is very tough, I never have any cracks or injuries, and our skin is made to keep pathogens out. We're at far greater risk of picking something up through our hands, even if we wash them (think the tap itself, the door knob, etc). It's with my hands I'm much more likely to touch my face or food afterwards; unless I lick my feet or put them up on the dinner table, any dirt I pick up -from a restroom or anywhere else- will just sit there harmlessly.

Parasites aren't a problem, they might still be in some tropical areas but as far as the US & Europe are concerned, the hookworm is the only one that can penetrate the skin of the foot, and it's been pretty much eradicated from the South since modern plumbing has replaced the outhouses, & never was a problem in cooler climates. The odds of finding any even in a restroom are extremely low.

If I were to put on footwear just to go into the restroom, I'd have to *handle* that footwear before and after, and I'd have to carry that dirty footwear somewhere, like in a bag or something, where the fresh dirt on the soles is in contact with anything else I'll be carrying, including possibly snacks and such... so if you're barefoot (even if you normally aren't, think about a park, pool or beach) you're actually increasing the risk of picking something up if you put on footwear just to go to the restroom. Unless you have a foot injury, just walk in and walk out, don't lick your toes and don't worry about it!

Going barefoot in other places, same thing, it's NOT dangerous or unhealthy. In fact I'm much more healthy than I used to be; I used to be sickly from early fall until late spring, coughing and sneezing no matter what I did. These past ten years I've called in sick once (for two days) and even a minor cough is rare. Nor have I ever had a negative comment from a doctor and I've met dozens (not for me, but accompanying my mom).

And there are NO health laws against going barefoot in public, that's a common myth but please see source. Stores may set their own dress codes but this is NOT required by any health department, insurance companies or other laws. It's sad so many people in the US believe going barefoot is unsanitary or dangerous; here in Europe most people believe it's healthy rather than dangerous, and I have never even SEEN a 'no shoes, no shirts, no service' sign here in the Netherlands, nor on my trips to Belgium or Scotland. Here it's just a non-issue what you want to wear or not wear on your feet, as it should be.

Practically NO where!

Most public places, going barefoot is illegal because it is unsanitary. I cannot abide people who go barefoot, I always think if all the "cutting" hazards which can be encountered. Generally, even at the beach, where barefoot is acceptable, there can be glass shards or even seashell pieces sharp enough to cut one's foot.

The only places I do go barefoot is 1-in my own home, 2-at my mother's home, and 3-on occasion... rare occasion... at another person's home, if they request it.

Have a polite day!

Anywhere outside.
At home Im barefoot everywhere except the bathroom. Have to wear shower-slippers in the bathroom because its Egypt and most apartments/homes have open showers and the whole tile floor gets wet. All the water goes down the drain hole in the floor.

I definitely wouldn't in a public bathroom. I also wouldn't do it in most public places (public showers and swimming areas being the only exception).

I'm not much of a barefoot person. Around the house, I go around in socks.

I wouldn't go barefoot at a landfill, a petting zoo, a coral reef, or a Major League Baseball dugout.
