We've got indoor/outdoor cats who use the grass, as well as a large number of strays who come to the food bowl in back. NONE of their pee kills the grass, and they won't poop in the grass if it's cut short. Though if they do, it never kills the grass either.

I don't understand why you think cat pee and poop is acidic enough to kill vegetation. I've never found that to be the case. If it was DOG pee or poop, yes, theirs will kill anything it lays on. But cats? Not to my experience.

No it doesn't have to do with genetics. Cats and dogs have a certain chemical in their urine that turns the grass yellow. They sell treats (at least for dogs, maybe for cats too) that keeps them from turning the grass yellow.

As long as its not in the house thats fine with me! My cat always digs holes. Litter box train it by digging the paws with your hands. Do this over and over. When it needs to go to the bathroom take it to the litter box. Thats all not a big deal!

I've only seen male cats do this. Fred, my neighbors cat was quite a character and he went anywhere that was convenient. Never noticed any lawn damage though. It was on my lawn and a mess.
