Amplified Bible is cool, I like it but sometimes I get a little distracted with the super descriptive nature of it. NIV is a pretty clear read. I like the NKJV, it keeps the poetic and lyrical tenor to the writings. Revised Standard is decent. I still haven't warmed up to the Message. I never had much problem understanding KJV only because I was a huge fan of Shakespeare and I understood the sentence and word constructions readily. Okay... sorry if it was too much info. But I do hope you get some helpful answers. Thanks for being cool.

The Bible we have now IS the Cliff Notes version. People keep writing in to R&S about Jesus from 5-29 yrs of age, what happened between creative days, what other letters were written by apostles, etc. It already gives us what we NEED to know in covering over 7,000 years of time with just humans plus more time on creation. AND we can still carry it!

That seems to be the gist of it.
The only parts it seems to leave out are the parts where it says:
God condemns the gays and such, but then says "love everyone".
God demands blood sacrifice, but then decides his Son's will do instead.
The part where God says "Believe or roast in Hell for Eternity!"
And of course, my favorite part:
"Preach this to everyone you know! But don't bother trying to understand it.... preach it by misquoting and yelling about damnation. Then ye shall inherit... umm, something."

Pretty much, exept the part where God kills himself to appease himself and to force himself to allow man into heaven.

Don't forget the part where he turns water into wine. It's a small detail, but it's one of my favorites. *hiccup*
