Not really. They can splinter and cause perforations of the gut, which is an awful thing to happen, for both the dog and your wallet! It doesn't happen often and I'm sure there are people who've given their dogs chicken bones their whole life without a problem, but it does happen and I say, it isn't worth the risk.

No chicken bones period! They are too porous and can splinter easily even if boiled for 24 hours.

Wild animals will eat the skin and feathers of chickens in conjunction with the bones. The skin and feathers act as a coating over the bones and protects the dog from the bones puncturing their esophagus or their stomach and intestines.

Unfortunately most domesticated dogs have no clue what to do with chicken skin let alone feathers and are at risk when eating chicken bones. so, for the most part...don't take a chance. Emergency vet visits are expensive not to mention the nerve wracking emotions that occur when you think your loved pet and companion is not going to make it.

So....If you want to give bones to your dog go to your local butcher shop and get some fresh dog bones. But NEVER-NEVER give your best friend chicken bones.! My butcher gives me cow leg bones that my dogs love. Fresh bones provide them not only with the calcium they need for the growth of their own bones, prevents canine osteoporosis as well as provides other nutrients for your pet while cleaning their teeth and keeping their gums free from gingivitis and periodontal disease.

I wouldn't. These bones splinter easily and can cause a choking hazard or worse damage if caught in the intestinal track. I know many people feed their dogs small bones like this and do not understand why anyone would take te risk.

NO! NO BONES- you want to give your dog bones, go to the pet store- bones splinter and break, get lodged in their intestines, and can do so much damage aside from the choking concern. NEVER give a dog chicken bones!

No no no. My friend's dog had to be put to sleep recently because he sneaked and ate some food with chicken bones. Why take the risk of losing your dog when there are so many other foods it could safely eat.

No way! Chicken bones are small so it's easy for dogs to either choke on them or damage their digestive system. If you want to give them bones, give them something like a meaty knuckle that can be bought at most drugstores and grocery stores.

No never! My friend's dog choked and died by eating chicken bones out of the garbage can. Don't ever feed your dog any animal bones...they can splinter and get caught in their throats!

I know I'll get thumbs down for this, but here goes:

It depends--yes, it DOES! A KFC chicken bone will not do; these are not cooked well enough for a dog to eat. Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company ( http://www.evangersdogfood.com ) sells a nice can of dog food--chicken drummets with some veggies and gravy. The chicken is cooked very well, making the bones soft enough for a dog to eat. (Trust me--it really is, I gave it to my own dog yesterday. He did not choke or anything.)

However, when feeding the chicken drummet dinner, I advise picking the bones out and feeding them after Fido has finished the rest. I was concerned that maybe my dog eat too fast (as he always does with canned food, so I have to mash them up really well before serving) so I took them out and fed them to him after the can was finished.

Oh, of course you don't have to feed the bones if you don't want to--just pick em out and throw em out! Or you could mash em up and feed em that way.

No!! Absolutely not. They can choke on them or the bones can pierce any part of the dog's digestive tract and cause severe injuries/problems.

Yes, chicken bones specifically can splinter, and long sharp bits can get caught in their throats! You can give them other types of bone, just not bones from poultry. However, chances are this won't happen, it's not THAT common.
