Is it possible to be allergic to firewood?

My husband made a fire in our fireplace and his sinuses totally swelled shut. Poor guy.

He could be allergic to the wood smoke. It bothers my wife's sinuses, too. Or he could be allergic to something on this particular batch of wood - pollen, for example.

Possibly. Smelling Elm logs burning makes my lungs ache. Other woods don't seem to bother me.
