- that all moral people will have a place in the afterlife, whatever their religion?

I know Judaism teaches this; which other faiths also have this view? I'm aware that Christianity teaches that only those who recognise Jesus will avoid hell. The stance of other religions? Thanks for your help.

Spiritualism teaches that everyone has the chance of progression in the afterlife.

Our fourth and seventh principle are;

The continuous existence of the human soul.

Eternal progress open to every human soul.

Though personally I omit the word "human", as I believe all souls, human and animal, go to the spirit world. Everyone has the chance to progress and learn from mistakes. If we were particularly bad in this life, we don't go to hell, but rather we have to learn and understand what we did wrong and pay for our mistakes, so that we can move on. The sixth principle of Spiritualism being;

Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth.

buddhism in a way does but its view of afterlife is different to that jews christians and any god religion, i bellieve we all can become liberated and we will all enter nibbana (pali for the sanscrit nivana) and it is safe to say that is the view of all buddhists. their is no soul in buddhism so their is a certain amount of difficulty in understanding this but here is a little explanation.
all things are imperminent and as such not for one moment are we identical to a previouse moment or the same as a moment to come, are you the same as you were this morning when you woke, or last night when you went to bed, and will you be the same tomorrow? with the experiences of each moment we are never the same person we are constantly changing, and it is the same from one life to the next. we are never the same person and never can be that person again if you look at my 360 i blog about buddhist thougt and i give fuller details of these things their

Christianity does not teach that. The original Christian Church teaches that those who through no fault of their own do not recognize Christ or His Church, but who do their best to do the will of God as perceived through their conscience, can be saved. Only recently founded manmade churches hold an exclusivist view of salvation, some of them going so far as to claim that you have to belong to their own little unauthorized manmade denomination in order to be saved. The original Christian Church however has a divine guarantee of truth, such that whatsoever it defines as binding truth on earth is also bound in heaven.

Go to Belief.net and you will find a lot of useful info on religions. I've looked high and wide and Judaism is the only one I've found who thinks the way to have a good life here and in the world to come are to love God and love your neighbor. They also believe they don't have the "only way" and "the only RIGHT way" to get there.

People can live a 'moral' life, but not enter heaven! A statement that causes great distress, bewilderment and anger in a lot of people. (Myself included sometimes!)

However, the whole concept of heaven and hell is based upon a belief in The Almighty.

It is about relationship and trust and is beyond our comprehension as finite beings!

Heaven is eternal relationship and life WITH God!
Hell is eternal seperation FROM God!

That is it in a nutshell!

As a Christian, my belief is that Jesus Paid for my passage into Heaven with His Blood, it is done by His Death and Resurrection, NOT by ANY works of mine!!!

I try to live my life as is pleasing to Him, because I don't want to cause Him any more pain and suffering than He has already experienced on The Cross on my behalf! So IF I am controlled then it is by love of Jesus, not fear of God's Wrath! However, I am fully human and sometimes fail Him, but He is Swift to Forgive my repentance and sorrow (not grovelling on my face in the dust)!

I am not trying to avoid hell, I simply cannot comprehend eternity without Jesus, my Heavenly Father and The Holy Spirit! Having tasted Their Love for me daily for twenty-three years, I know that for me eternal seperation from Them would BE hell - quite literally!

Perhaps this answer isn't helpful, but as far as I am aware, other religions beliefs are set on OUR works to get us into heaven or hell. (My neighbour who now lives abroad had become a budhist and was absolutely freaked out because she'd accidentally killed a snail while gardening!)

Whereas in Christianity, it is FAITH AND TRUST in Jesus' Works (His Death on The Cross and Resurrection) that gives us entry into Heaven! Leaving us free to live this life attempting to live in His Peace and Love with all mankind - not always easy!

Christians believe that only God will judge and make the decision although it is the Will of God that all his creation may enter Heaven.
