I think the real answer is far larger than we would like to admit. God so often calls us to move out of our comfort zone and we just don't want to do it.

Did you intend to stir up so much fuss with your question? When you call out to "devout Christians only", you must realize that every unbeliever who sees your call will respond with some sort of ugly response. If you have a question which you want answered properly, it would be better if you attempted to keep a lower profile when you submit your question. I am sorry that so many people responded to your question so negatively.
I believe with all my heart that God has called on every Christian to do something for Him, and that is to share the Good News with everyone you can. I also believe that He has given each a special task beyond that--that is why He has given each of us at least one spiritual gift. We are to all work together to build up the body of Christ, the church.
I believe that very few of us has done as we have been called to do; we live with the proof of that every day. One very good example of this would be all the ugly answers that are returned to Christians who ask questions on YA. Another would be all the crime and hate that exists all over the world. If we were doing as He has commanded, and as we should be doing, such situations would be less frequent and less severe. There would still be crime and hate in the world, but we could do something about part of that.
I say all that to say this: "I, too, am one of the procrastinators. Anytime that we fail to do what we know we should, or anytime that we do something we know we shouldn't, we are putting off living a Christ-like life. We are committing sin. To put off living as we should, or "procrastinating on getting started to do what God has called us to do" is SIN. And we are all sinners. Jesus said that if we have broken one part of the Law of God, we are guilty of all. That means that if you have sinned, and everyone has, then you are guilty. There is only one way to overturn that guilty verdict--accept the blood penalty that was paid to atone for it. Jesus died because he assumed the guilt for all our sin, even that of all the atheists, agnostics, and those igornant of His sacrifice. To escape the death penalty of our sin, we have to turn to Him for forgiveness. Blessedly, He readily forgives our sincere pleas. Having placed our trust in Him, we can live in the peace and joy of knowing that we have been then forever forgiven, even though we continue sometimes in disobedience to His will.

I think there those that procrastinate, and some that jump ahead of God. I tend to be in the first category, but am moving in the direction He wants me to.

We're constantly presented with opportunities to do things, on God's behalf. I sometimes hesitate or procrastinate, because I'm not always sure if what I'm feeling is God's will or my own. Sometimes people feel that they should go to another source for help. I'm not going to intrude and respect their wishes.

Why, in God's name, must this be a question for devout Christians only? Many people who are not Christians believe in God! Who are you to judge a persons level of connection with their God or religion?

We are all called upon daily to do God's work. Most people respond to that call whether you realize it or not! By the tenor of your question it seems as though you are about to launch a Crusade! By all means, launch whatever it is you wish but do not presume to judge anyones procrastination or inability to jump in with both feet. It is enough that each one of us responds in our own way to any task at hand. That seemingly small task can reap great rewards. A hand to lend, a smile to lighten, a word to console...these are what matter most to those who suffer.

I would have to say all Christians are called to do something for God. The Bible teaches us to teach His word. If we don't do this simple task, then we are failing Him. I do my best to teach those who want to learn as well as my family and friends. I think many Christians don't feel they need to do this. I feel this is important becasue as a Christian, I want everybody saved.

Or even attending Bible study. Something along those lines where we are teaching His word.

I want to add that it is one thing to teach those you know as opposed to standing on a corner screaming about God and handing out pamphlets. I'm Christian, but those people really bother me. I know they feel they are doing God's work, but they don't have to do it in that manner.

Not anymore. I've spent all the time I'm gonna spend on the back row. In the past, I've felt God call me to do things that I never did.. and it made me miserable. Now, when God tells me to do something, I listen! =]

I'm in the other situation. I'm learning a new profession in order to better serve Him, but so far He hasn't laid any particular call on my heart. God bless you.
