I only give thumbs down when someone is being mean or if the answer has nothing to do with the question. But some people are giving thumbs down when others are just simply stating their own opinions. It's even more ridiculous when they give thumbs down for somebody's own personal experience on something. Stop being so childish.

Kellie W: yes, it does make sense, but when I ask a question, I could care less what other people think of someone else's answer. It only matters what I think. That should be the same with others as well.

Here Here! :)

Totally agree. Unfortunately there are too many immature people on Yahoo Answers who are just on here to troll around and to disagree with anyone who is actually giving logical answers, whether they are opinions only or actual answers to the questions.

Someone asked about what a c/section is like. I shared my experience. I had two emergency c/sections. Got a thumbs down for it. ?? I had to laugh at that.

It all boils down to people who are just on here to abuse the internet in most cases. Thumbs down people and those who ask asinine questions such as "I know you can't drink alcohol while pregnant, but can you use cocaine?"

I occasionally give a thumbs-down if the advice given is contrary to sound medical practice or advocates borderline-abusive or downright abusive parenting practices. It is important for a parent asking a question to see what others think of answers given. For example, if someone posts to spank with abandon when a tiny child has a toileting accident, I'll rate the asnwer with a thumbs-down. The parent asking the question needs to know that other parents reading such responses do not approve of them.

If a person answers a question cruely, they get a thumbs-down from me. If the person is answering a question that requires a bit of actual knowledge to answer, and their reply indicates a total lack of knowledge (such as whether or not a mother can breastfeed again after stopping for a few weeks, and the answerer replies "no, don't bother" when in fact it is quite possible), I'll give it a thumbs down, unless their reply indicates that they are just giving what they think is the case (for example: "I think that it is not possible...ask your doctor what he or she thinks), as opposed to sounding like they know what they are talking about. Does that make sense?

I agree with you 100% and tend do give the thumbs down for the same reasons you expressed.

It goes back to someone having a power trip and 'status' of who can, and cannot give a thumbs up/down. I tend to get over it pretty quickly when I get the thumbs down.

It all comes back to maturity. Some people still believe that if it hasn't happened to them or if they question it....its not true or its wrong.

Basically, we've upset the natural order of things by protecting these people from things that would have ultimately ended their futile existence up to this point. IE, dont put plastic sacks over your head.

These types of people wouldn't be expelling CO2 right now if nature had its way.

(by the way, this is mostly just a joke, except for the first statement)

I wonder the same thing. I think its just people being stupid and childish. I've gotten thumbs down for giving my experience and its totally stupid.

Thumbs down is for if you don't like the answer, no matter why. The report flag is for insults or not answering the question.
