Because God does not belong in our schools and courtrooms. The USA is NOT a Christian nation... DESPITE the lies that have been told to you by your religious puppet-masters. Our Founding fathers went to great lengths to assure that would NOT be the case. The 'law of the land' was NOT based on any Christian or biblical doctrine or writings... it was rooted in the secular humanist ideals of the 'Enlightenment' and the ensuing 'Age of Reason'... when mankind began to THROW OFF the yoke of biblical theocracy, and develop a reason and consensus-based concept of the 'rights of man', based on MORAL principles... not 'biblical' principles.

The laws were based upon the Code of Hammurabi (which predates the 10 Commandments by at least 1,000 years), English Common Law, and other sources which included Greek and Roman law. The IDEA for having a 'constitution' came from the Constitution of the Iroquois Confederation.

The 'Treaty of Tripoli' (June 7, 1797) specifically states, in Article 11: "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen (Moslems); and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation (Islam), it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries." This treaty, unanimously approved by the Senate and signed into law by John Adams only a few years after the ratification of the Constitution, is taken by constitutional scholars to be a clear and unambiguous declaration of the intent of the founders.

The government is removing God (and by that I assume you mean the Christian one) from all of the institutions it controls because, contrary to popular belief, we are a country of people who recognize Deity in many forms. Since the government represents ALL the people, and not just some (regardless of how big a group the some is), it is taking steps to make ALL the people comfortable accessing and using it. Simple.

Anything Christian that you would like to do in a school or courtroom can, I am sure, can be done in a church of your choosing.

Let me preface this by saying I am a Christian.

Now, the reason is because of the Constitution and spearation of Church and State. Be realistic, do you really want your child to learn about Christ from the teachers at the public school? What do you know about them and their beliefs? Where I live now, many of the teachers attend local churches, and even teach Sunday School, so while I may be comfortable with them teaching these things to my children, I would not have wanted teachers in Phoenix teaching it. I know who my children's Sunday School teachers are, and what they are teaching, I know what they are hearing during our Sunday Services, and what they learn at AWANA. Why would I want to confuse them with maybe a Muslim or Hindu or teacher giving them instruction on prayer, or an Athiest one telling them there is no God? My children still bless their food at lunch, and pray before a test, and even offer to pray for classmates. Those rights are protected by the same laws that you see as removing God from our lives.

To the person who said that the US is not a Christian Nation, it is not now, but when it started it was. The majority of the Founding Fathers were Christians, why do you think our money says "In God we Trust"?

Nonsense! at the beginning, that america "became into in line with christianity" can in basic terms be extensive-unfold because of the fact the rantings of somebody who has easily no information of U.S. historic past or an outright liar. so a approaches as your correlating the decline of society with the presence (or lack thereof) of christianity, this is a controversy that has been made because of the fact the beginning up of the cult. in actuality that the decline of yankee society would properly be immediately tied to the upward thrust of backwoods theology preached to drooling idiots by ability of toothless, barefoot graduates of the Abner Yokum college of Jesusism and Stump Pullin'. because of the fact the "religious authentic" (a real oxymoron) has gained impression interior the government and pushed their apocolyptic fantasies, we've entered right into a conflict of journey that's tearing the country aside. As christians have greater their presence interior the media, we've seen the upward thrust of objectionalble audio, video and print cloth. As "christians" (people who definitely have confidence a e book that asserts the solar rotates around the Earth) infect our academic and scientific communities with their mythology, we are at as quickly as starting to be the giggling inventory of a international that's leaving us interior the dirt in the two factors. And, the ten Commandments, how stuipd does a guy or woman would desire to be to no longer be attentive to that stealing and homicide are incorrect? Do you incredibly have confidence that somebody who hasn't the psychological means to comprehend the appropriate-foot, left-foot technique of walking will without notice understand the adaptation between authentic and incorrect because of the fact they see a plauqe someplace? .

Because not everyone shares your mythology.

I'm really tired of hearing Christians whine about not having prayer in school and that we want "under God" taken out of the pledge. "Under God" has only been there since 1954 - so we managed to win 2 world wars and get through the Great Depression without becoming communist or a dictatorship without God's help, so there's no reason to have it now. How would you feel if it was "Under Allah" and there were readings from the Koran, or "Under Vishnu" and readings from Hindu texts, or "Under the Flying Spaghetti Monster" and reading pasta recipes? Not mentioning any god or having any prayer is neutrality, not promoting atheism. Promoting atheism would be "One nation intelligent enough to not believe in any gods" and reading from Atheist Universe or Losing Faith in Faith. Seems plenty of Christians are only happy when they can force their nonsense down everyone else's throat. Just like something out of 1984 - you say we oppress you when we don't let you oppress everyone else. We need to start following the constitution. You have plenty of time to kiss up to your invisible sky daddy at home and in church. Just leave the rest of us out of it!

Erin D - In God We Trust wasn't added until the 1950s (under McCarthyism.)

Because "they" believe with a different emphasis in "separation of church and state" and are defining it more as "freedom from religion" as it was NOT intended.
They are not upholding "unalienable rights" which is more a part of the founding of our country than "separation..."
Separation of church and state never ment separation
of religion and public life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is more about monetary support and
certainly simply to not have anyone punished for not being
of a certain denomination. Punished means in their
finances or physically punished somehow - it is to be
in all fairness and dignity to all faiths.
"They" just want more of an excuse to legislate
immorality and are spreading lies about what
love and morality are - reasoning it all in a
very skewed perspective about what religious
freedom and morality really is - going against
what has worked and going more towards
communistic type of thinking that does not work.
I think Americans have gotten so spoiled and
we are about to ruin everything if we don't
learn from our own and from other's history.
The prioirties are getting grotesquely out of
balance. Example: liberty taking priority over life - that
is a BIG one. Also, if we are no longer allowed
to talk about God in public, that is completely
missing the point of both separation of church and
state as well as religious freedom!

Let us remain a free country and not take it
for granted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A person does not just live out their religion in private,
it affects their whole lives.

If there are too many pubic and/or gov't run places that exclude religion, then freedom of religion is certainly being infringed upon! It becomes more and more communisitc until religion is no longer allowed at all - we don't want that.
Freedom of religion is very, very important to a person's
life. If we keep denying religious freedom, we
are actually upholding atheism and that goes totally
against unalienable rights and human rights.

Becuase God has no place there.

Schools and courtrooms and whatnot should remain SECULAR. In other words, not for or against God--completely neutral in the face of religion or lack thereof.

You are not Big Brother. Quit trying to impose yourself on me and how I think.

Religion has no place in courthouses, which represent the law from the government and in schools funded by the government. There's this little thing called separation of church and state. You can believe whatever you want to believe and practice whatever religion you want, but it is unethical and illegal to force your religious beliefs on others through any government system. Our country was founded on this principle.

Probably because the government is supposed to represent EVERYONE, not just those of certain specific religious orientations.

So those members of the public who don't happen to share your particular religious beliefs aren't forced to pray to your God, swear to your God, follow your commandments, or those of any other religion.

It's called freedom of religion. Kind of an important principle, and one of the key ingredients in making your country a centrepiece of free thinking, democracy and progress.

It is not.

However, there is no state sponsored belief system.

If you want to pray in school, or the courts - go right ahead, no one will stop you. But you can not make the people around you pray, you can not base the judicial system on your religion.

If you do not like that, tough, it is in the constitution.
