This is an in dept study actually and today no more than 2000 yrs. ago materialism is much sought after in its different forms even to the point of achieving higher education etc.Warning here is to be on guard and not to let it become first place in ones life. The everlasting life Jesus was promoting above our short stint of existence here on earth would not be earned by the extent of worldly goods achieved during this time. Therefore he continued to emphasize reaching out to reliance on gods heavenly kingdom and introduced a model prayer to that end.

While I agree, more or less, with the sentiment of the statement, the simple fact is we have no credible evidence to support that Jesus ever said this as there is no evidence that Jesus ever existed as a historical person.

Not when it's been translated from the KJV. The original says :
15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

THIS I agree with.

The parable of the rich fool......We in the USA should be able to grasp this quickly.

Don't be to attached to what you have. Its all just dust. Money isn't everything.

A deeper life is required. A greater consciousness developed. A tender heart towards the rest of humankind.

If one accepts the existence and teachings of Jesus without proof but rejects the words and or existence of all other prophets for which there is the same lack of evidence, then one is perpetuating the seemingly eternal deception of religion.

YES I DO!!

As for I'm an Atheist. Jesus did exist and his teaching are well documented. That does not mean you have to believe he is the Son of God. There are many documents to prove Jesus was a great teacher and scholar of his times. This is undeniable.

FYI: I DO believe Jesus is the Son of God. But that is not relevant to the question.

Yes, you can look around and see many people with good jobs, money, lots of friends, etc. But we do not know what is in another person's heart, only God does. That reading is just a warning to us, to not be envious or jealous of someone else.

For a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Instead, it consists of that which he gives the Lord, which is his life, and his devotion, and his soul. One can be given back by God, the other two by man.

Yes, I do agree.
