Will I fail a drug test? What kind of privacy laws are there to prevent an employer from knowing if I'm on antidepressants? PS - I don't have any illegal drugs in my system.

Most drug tests check for 7 types of drugs:

benzodiazepines,amphetamines,
barbituates,cannabinoids,
cocaine metabolites,opiates, and PCP.

I don't know which meds you are taking, but some sedatives will show up positive for benzos (xanax, valium, ativan, etc.) and I think some add meds like ritalin could show up as amphetamines.

If you are comfortable doing so, let me know which meds you are taking and I will look it up in our hospital database to check.

When you take a drug test they will ask you what you have taken, even if you took an aspirin. So be honest and tell them what you are taking, and then they will know that you don't have illegal drugs in you. Take the bottle with you and ask them about this, if you are concerned.

The lab will usually ask if you are taking any medication and why. This should not be passed on to your employer. It is so when and if it is detected it is not looked at as an
"unexplained" finding.
