For example, you work with someone who is articulate, highly educated, skilled, successful, and has a great personality. Then one day they share with you the stories of their weekly tongue-speaking ritual at their church's Sunday service. They do not try to impose their beliefs on you, but do you still lose respect for them?

Yeah....a little.

It was like my wife had this co-worker who left for another job. Well this woman asks her to come to lunch one day to talk about business. Now keep in mind the job she left was a senior VP with Dell. So my wife figures that it might be a real job offer and goes. It was a pyramid scheme. So to say the least, she lost all respect at that point.

It is the same thing. I am immediately going to assume that the person is very gullible and somewhat deluded. That merits keeping an eye on no matter what kind of front they put up.

I do happen to work with someone who is articulate, highly educated, skilled, successful, and has a great personality. She's also a Christian. I've told her I'm an atheist so we don't talk religion at all. I haven't lost respect for her because of her religion.

I'm Christian, but I would just like to give the opposite of this question. I don't loose respect for them unless they push their beliefs on me, are rude, or call me names. If this does happen though, I stop the conversation, and let it go. I get over my initial anger or sadness within a few minutes, and say that I'm sorry to them for loosing my composure.

My co-worker, who is a genius, doesn't believe in anything, would be considered as atheist, but doesn't categorize him as that, he thinks atheists are stupid. He is very opinionated, and KNOWS that he is right. But I still have a great deal of respect for him and He I.

probable no longer. a completely non secular individual does not certainly have the means to spare the psychological means to get entangled with absolutely everyone. Do you recognize what "completely" skill? It quite does not count lots, what the guy is truthfully approximately. it ought to additionally be physics or astrology. completely skill there is not any room for something of their ideas. -- Regards, John Popelish

No... well, it depends how far it goes.

If that person believes that all women are sinners because of Eve's original sin, that the Bible's creation tales are more accurate than scientific theories or can never justify a moral decision asides from saying "because the Bible says so", then yes, I would lose respect for that person.

It depends upon whether that person chooses to think or not. If they are incapable of conscious rational thought then I loose respect for them.

Nope. They sound like good people who do things I have no interest in. But otherwise, I would love to work with someone like that.

Not necessarily. If I find out they are a Young Earth Creationist, then definitely.

I don't mean to, it's not a conscious effort, it just happens.

Well I just lost what little respect I had left for certain Atheists. It's reassuring to know that these aren't representative of all Atheists.
