I don't want to have a loud band with people dancing like crazy at my wedding. No rock, etc. What type of band would I search for that would play classical music, jazz, etc? Also some nice classic slow songs would be great - i.e. Nat King Cole style.

We are an older (well, 29 and 27) couple and work in finance and consulting. I don't think people, including myself, at our wedding would appreciate a DJ blaring "Love Train," etc.

If people leave our wedding because the don't like the music, they aren't true friends in the first place.

Look for a string quartet or a local jazz band. Some colleges will be able to help you with this.

I agree that a classical or jazz quartet would be your best bet. I am sure there are plenty of musicians in your area, just do a search online for jazz quartet and your state and I am sure you will find something.

Also it sounds like you are having a low key elegant affair that suits your personality and tastes. I wouldn't worry about people leaving I am sure everyone will have a nice time!
Good luck!

Be prepared...if the music is boring...guests will leave. Guests want to have fun and be entertained...this is a celebration. Take it from me, I went to a wedding and the music was so boring that people were leaving right after dinner. They didn't even wait for the cake to be cutt!! Remember people want to have fun...even stuffed shirts like to let their hair down once in a while. At least mix it up a little. If you don't...I advise you to cancel the cake...cause you won't need it.

Sad but true! congratulations on your nuptials!!!

Just look in local bridal magazines or do a search on musicians for hire. They're everywhere.

Just to let you know, I just went to a wedding that only played the standards and it was BORING! No one will really dance and the majority of your guests will just sit there waiting for something entertaining to happen. So if you do this, have something fun for your guests to do.
