There have been numerous homosexual Mexican citizens who have been granted asylum in the United States based on fear of physical assault if sent back to Mexico.
Here's just one story about it....
Gay Mexican granted asylum after long battle
Los Angeles Times
Wednesday, January 31, 2007
A U.S. immigration judge granted an illegal Mexican immigrant asylum, citing his sexual orientation and the severe persecution of gays in Mexico, the man's lawyer said Tuesday.
Jorge Soto Vega, 38, said he had suffered harassment and violence from family members and authorities in Mexico because he is gay.
According to court documents, while living in Guadalajara, Soto Vega was beaten by police and then robbed, called anti-gay slurs, and told that he would be killed if he was ever seen again.
In 1988, Soto Vega paid a smuggler to sneak him into the United States, and he settled in the Hollywood and Silver Lake areas of Los Angeles. In 2001, Soto Vega returned from a brief visit to Mexico after his mother's death, during which he said he was afraid to go outside. He filed an application for asylum the next year.

From what I have heard yes its pretty hostile. Gay life exists but it is not open. Mexican guys have told me the usual way it happens is there is sort of an underground that just meets at various houses around town, or at parties, and thats about it, not a lot of openly gay bars or other venues. They said that if you play the game you are left alone, just don't be openly gay and people won't bother you.

It is hard to sum up millions of people into having one collective thought.
I know that Mexicans call each other "maricon" a lot which means gay, and, is meant to be an insult. I knew of a straight man once that was raped by a group of gay men in Mexico City.....
The younger generation is much more accepting of gays. I know of a 20 year old Mexican that is openly gay and is occassionally teased, but, is accepted by his friends.

I went to Mexico City this past year where gay marriage was recently legalized. There were gay couples making out everywhere and it didn't seem like it was a big deal.

Disrespectfully, Un-tolerable. Most people (in Mexico) are Catholic, and few are christian, but also many people are conservative in mexico. Here in Guadalajara, it is known as a gay city, and many people i talk to do not like seeing them. Though it isnt few who tolerate gay people here. Its almost the same as many parts of the world.

In maximum Islamic cultures, homosexuality is seen sin and unlawful (like it was in Christianity). I disagree with the way many Islamic females are dealt with as 2d-type voters (like it was in Christianity) yet issues substitute slowly. The Palestinian people, to respond to your question, are actually not in basic terms the rightful proprietor of Palestine ("Israel") yet they're situation to daily genocidal assaults via the IDF, who makes use of weapons and suggestions of killing outlawed via international regulation. yet they (Israel) spit into the face of the U.N. everytime. Israel is a fear state.

I don't know about as a group, but I do know of one that chased a transsexual all over the neighborhood with a gun when he found out he wasn't a she.

Homosexuality is seen as an abomination, homosexuals are accepted as normal folks.
They do make fun of them though, but they are not discriminated.
