My boy is three years olds and has a servere issue with whining, Every thing he does is followed by whining, Now i have tried time outs and there a joke, spanking will not work cause i'd be spanking him all day long and i don't want that. Bribing with a toy or a toy taken away does not work tried that to!! Any ideas on how to get him to stop whining with out bribing him, time outs or spanking? ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRICATED!!

i know what you mean! I have a 2 and 3 yr old and all day long i hear "WHINING!!!" It drives me crazy. But, what I do, is ignore as much as I can and if they really need to tell me something, like they are hurt or don't feel well or something, i bend down to their level (this shows them you really care and are ready to listen) and say, "I want to listen, but it's hard for me to understand when you whine. Can you talk slowly and tell me exactly what happened?"

This usually works. In the end, kids really only want attention. The hard part about growing up is learning that you are NOT the center of everyone's universe and that folks will listen to you without being a spoiled brat. We just have to teach them what's appropriate.

Its a stage, lots of kids go through it. Dont give him attention unless its an actual emergency. tune him out and eventually the game will loose its fun. My daughter is 4 and is whining less and less each day.

ignore it. He is getting exactly what he wants from whining. If you give him attention, even negative attention, he willl repeat the behavior. When he whines, turn around and walk away. If he does it in public, put him in the car and leave. Don't give in, PERIOD!!!
