I grew up with a golden retriever and she was a great dog but I also love the lab. They are both beautiful dogs. obviously someone on here don't like labs because they gave everyone here that chose them a negative! I guess I have to choose a lab but the dog is not for me its for you and you are the one that has to raise it. both are wonderful dogs its just what you want in a dog! I just have to be one more to get a negative! And to willowitch ( pit bulls dont kill people bad owners do) get your facts strait!

I like Goldens a little more. I mean, have you ever seen a golden retriever puppy? They're so cute! And Goldens seem to be slightly better in temperament... like... just barely, and a little more grounded and intelligent. And they seem like they tend to be healthier. Labs tend to get arthritis and tend to get kinda chunky when they're older.
Keep in mind this is a completely unbiased opinion, I've never owned either a golden or a lab but I've probably been around labs a little more, though.

They're both good family dogs, but I like golden retrievers best. Labs can chew for the longest time (for about the first 2 years) rather than growing out of it like most dogs. And the oil in their skin/hair that keeps them from getting water-logged (they're water dogs after all), also makes them smell bad. And they naturally slobber more than retrievers.

Labs and goldens are both great breeds...especially for families. I do love goldens, but they definitely require a lot more grooming. I have a yellow lab and he just requires a bath every once in a while and brushing a few times a week (he even trims his own nails!...I don't think most do that though, lol).

I have Labs and would never ever have another breed. Before I got my first Lab I was torn between teh Labs and goldens. But I spent time around both and fell more for the Labs. I also am around water and wanted my dogs there to and the goldens coat were just too long. I also love the Labs temperments better and their devotion. I never have regreted my choice.

It depends on you really. Do you want a dog that is laid back and low energy or a dog that you will be very active with. If you are looking for a more laid back dog I would go with the Golden Retriever and if you want a more active dog I would go with the Lab, but both are very good dogs and are good in many different types of households.

They're both great! I've never owned a golden myself but I have had numerous labs and I LOVE every one I have they have beat my other dogs by far in loyalty and obedience and other things! I've heard that goldens are really similar!! but I would get a lab

They are both loving, kind, loyal dogs. Just make sure you go to a reputable breeder.
To Stephanie (above) When has a lab or retriever ever ripped a small child to shreds???? That is a characteristic of your "beloved" pittbull. Labs are the number one most registered dog in the country, and they DONT kill people. Pitt bulls kill people.
