I absolutely LOVE NASCAR but the tickets are so expensive, I have never been able to go to a race. Well, this October I will be making my first trip to a NASCAR race at Talladega. Since I have never been, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me. I'm to sure what to expect, so any advice will be wonderful (from the trip there to pit road)!! We also have pit passes, so any information on that will also be appreciated.
Thanks yall!!

Contrary to those other answers (and your reply...lol), you'll have a good time I'm sure. I've never been but have heard that it gets really LOUD. I'd carry some earplugs. Also, you might want to carry a small pocket wallet for ID and money. Keep it in your front pocket. Unfortunately, people have often had their pockets picked at such events.
Carry a small digital camera too (if they're allowed).
While it will be in October and relatively cool, make sure you drink plenty of water. It won't be hot but you'll probably be standing a lot and moving around which will make you perspire a bit. Getting dehydrated will be no fun for you if you wind up at the first aid station.
The trip there will be long, the traffic both before and after the race is very heavy. What normally takes an 1.5 hour trip from Birmingham took my nephew 4 hours.
Drive safe and have a good time!

Be sure to get there very early because of traffic. I have arrived at 8:30 before and the race starts at noon, and traffic was already bad.
Check the weather foreast, sometimes it's very hot in October, sometimes not. Keep in mind you'll be sitting elbow to elbow.
Also be prepared to see the biggest gathering of low class rednecks you've ever seen. I'm a born and bred southerner and those people make me sick. That's the one thing I do not like about Talladega, the low class people there, not all of them mind you, but a lot.
Be prepared to stand in long lines at the concession. The bathrooms are ancient and need to be upgraded.
Restrictor plate racing is just as you see it on TV, they stay bunched up most of the time.
After the race, just sit there for about 2 hours. Traffic is a nightmare leaving. Sorry if I put to much negative stuff in here, but I've been twice so I know.
Have fun and be safe

I go to the Talladega races every year. The pit road and garage areas are super and basicly fan freindly.I enjoy watching the event from there but you do have a restricted veiwing area.
When in the grandstands I like to sit where I can see down the pit road.
After the race I like to go down vendors row.Looking at the souviner trailers, the traffic flow from the track moves smooth but when 200,000 fans it takes awhile so looking at the souviner trailers is a good way to let the traffic flow and it should be easier to drive.
But most of all enjoy the race.

I hope you like to stand. It is the one track that i have been to that the fans never sit! Usually, after the first few laps into a race, everyone settles in, and sits down to watch.... not Talledega. Everyone stood for the whole race.
I'm not sure the cost of renting a scanner, not bad. But,there is a deposit of about $100 each. I bought my set for about $230 so that i would have them each race i go to.
After leaving the track, we found the easiest way to get out of the bumper to bumper traffic was to head north away from the freeway on the back roads.

As far as the cost, NASCAR.com should have most of the information you need.
Just relax and enjoy the day. There are designated areas where you can and CANNOT go, even with pit passes. If you are not sure, just ask any one of the grounds crew. They have always been very friendly and helpful.
Enjoy the race,
Hey, why not make a YAHOO Answers sign to hold up if the cameras get near you?

Wow, what a great place to experience your first race...If you are a party animal it will be a wild weekend.. Make sure you have ear plugs, try to rent a scanner so you can listen to your favorite drivers, comfy shoes & clothes, make sure you wear your fav drivers t-shirt, cap, etc. Take a sharpie for autographs, get a program so you'll have something for them to autograph, take a camera.. I've always gotten there early, as traffic can be a nightmare...Have fun..you will love it, its fast and noisy there...Once you go, you will be hooked and you'll go to more races, once at Talladega is never enough.. Have a great time...I've been there over 10 times...and never had a bad time..

Ohhh you will have so much fun! Nothing like being there in person, wait till you hear the roar of those most awesome machines, you can feel it in your heart. I would definitely visit the souvenir trailers 1st for the best picks. The scanners are about $45.00 and you can hear all the in car as well as the announcers for the race. It's not like on TV where you know what it going on in person you normally can't really hear much, so pay attention. Pit Road is a blast, I would wait to go there till closer to race time. If you go to pit road to early they don't have the cars out on the track for you to see yet. Above all have a wonderful time & be safe! Go JR!!

I think most of it has already been covered but one thing I started doing when I go to the Bristol is take stuff to throw a little tailgate party after the race. Let everybody else fight the traffic getting out if ya know what I mean.
Have a great time and take lotsa pics!

Everyone has given you good advice so far. Don'tr forget to bring your own cooler with you. Most tracks allow a 14x14x14 cooler in the seating area, not the pit access. All in all have a grreat time. You'll love the difference between there and on T.V.

For scanners go to www.nextelonline.com If you see a driver in the pits, dont freeze up, for the most part is like talkin to your brother or friend, they are not much like most athletes if you catch em on a good day.
Watch the weather out there, it can be itchy, humid, dry, hot, cold, never know.
