So many Mormons say that "If I could do it, so can you."
Ahem, but everyone is different! Why do we Mormons (since I'm one, too) feel the need to think everyone around us is so similar that we all have the same problems and temptations and that we must all solve them in the same way?

Generally if you have a positive attitude, you will be a cheerleader for others. If I stopped smoking, so can you!! Sure it doesn't always work, but what is the alternative? I did it, but you probably can't.

I don't think that "all mormons" Think that way. You must just be going through something that the ones you have talked to may have already experienced. I am LDS, and I don't talk like that. We do share alot of the same temptations though, seeings as we are all taught in the same manner, and all taught the same beliefs. We don't have to solve our problems all in the same way, but if you were to come to me with A problem you are experiencing that I too have experienced, of course I would tell you the way I got through it because that is what worked for me. That doesn't mean it is the right way for you to do it.

All problems have solutions -- maybe you don't like the solution that will work.

However not everyone will have to take the same solution all the time -- as long as you are ACTUALLY solving the problem.

If I can understand this -- you can too.

I don't think that way. That goes against the principle of individuality and free agency, both core aspects of Mormon doctrine.
