Human rights

Homosexuality is illegal in Nigeria as it runs counter the country's deeply ingrained cultural and religious mores. Homosexual intercourse is punishable by imprisonment in the south and possibly death in the Muslim north.

On February 14, 2007 The National Assembly held public hearings on a bill to ban gay marriage and criminalize virtually all forms of gay expression. The bill reads as follows:

Any person who is involved in the registration of gay clubs, societies and organizations, sustenance, procession or meetings, publicity and public show of same sex amorous relationship directly or indirectly in public and in private is guilty of an offense and liable on conviction to a term of five years imprisonment.

In April 2007, the voluntary Sharia police of Nigeria known as the Hisbah issued arrest warrants against an alleged lesbian who married four women in a large celebration in Kano, Nigeria.

4 women? Yikes!... or did she marry the women to each other?

Whatever, this is one of those times when I'm glad to live in the US. I mean, we are FAR from perfect, but at least we don't kill people for being themselves.

becouse they need help. do you want everyone to live by the same rules? if so think about this sadam husain was a tyrant but he kept a lid on the troubles in the country, his production of oil was greater in the slow periods than it is now, it could be said he was a necessary evil or the lesser of two evils. democracy can do allot of things but it can not stop people hurting others were as tyrany can. you said the country's deeply ingrained cultural and religious mores what would happen if it became legal people are led into a false sence of security come out of the closset and are killed, why becouse the law changed but peoples attitude didn't. we should NEVER not help someone just becouse we disagree with how they live.

Lets not forget about the corruption going on in Nigeria. Nigeria is the biggest oil exporter in Africa yet more than half of it's population live on less than a dollar a day. All the money is going to corrupt politicians. Guess who is paying these corrupt politicians yes American companies such as ExxonMobil. Before we judge other nations we must judge our own.

Homesexuality is against my own beliefs but I do not agree with draconian punishments. In the same way adultary is against my beliefs and I don't agree with draconian punishments for that either. I follows that I do not accept any religeous validity in homosexual "marriages" So far as your question is concerned Nigeria has sufficient natural resources to look after itself. It is yet another failed democracy proving that in spite of its faults the Colonial SDystem was a better form of government in that area

Don't see whats wrong with that! not all countries have to agree with homosexuals it is prohibited in many religions. If western countries want to legalise the laws for homosexuals then that is up to them but other cultures/countries do not have to embrace this way of life. Homosexuality is wrong in my opinion & why should we all agree with it, you cant have children this way so it's unnatural.

Do people have to be perfect before we help them? That would be an odd thing indeed, for if they were perfect to begin with then they wouldn't need our help lol.

If we don't help them, the only ones that will be hurt will be the poor who have no say in what goes on.

We should mind our own business. It's their country and their laws. Let them live their own lives.
