Do a dark beige, like "whole wheat" by Sherwin Williams.

How about a white beaded wainscoting? That way, the top of the wainscoting is the chair rail and you don't have to paint anything (you can get prepainted wainscoting sections at a home improvement store). And the white would work well with the green and white stripes.

If you already installed the chair rail and don't want to remove it to install the wainscoting, you might want to get a very light shade of the same color green you used. That way it will match, but give you a contrast between the wall above and below the chair rail.

I would try a nice chamois/camel/wheat color. If the green is warm go with a warm brown perhaps, or if it is more of a cool green, try something more beige or chocolate milk-colored. Anyway, I would go for something mid-tone. Sounds like right now you have very high contrast. A subtle, mid-tone color might be just the thing down below the railing. Good luck!

It relies on how a lot gentle the room gets, how top the partitions are, and what layout outcome you're looking to create. If it is a bed room or den, darkish at the best might be pleasant and calming. If this is a kitchen, the outcome probably too cave-like.

Match it up to the off white stripes to keep it open and fresh looking.
