Actually, I like my goth friends. I don't know of anybody, anywhere who believes all that nonsense about killing babies and drinking their blood. I actually have met a couple of goths who were Satanists, but they don't drink babies' blood, either, because LaVeyan Satanists don't do that. Most of the goths I know are either Pagan or Christian, with a few atheists or agnostics here and there. A few of them attend my church, and yes, they wear goth clothes and makeup to services. I don't dress like they do or share their taste in music, but I've often found them to be intelligent, highly creative, and interesting to talk to.

Honestly, it is more about the black clothes for me. As I am not one for the color black, other then the color thing. Goth's don't bother me.
But to be honest, I do graphics on the computer and have seen people that claim to be goth. That have made graphics in which there is blood all over the place, and heads of dolls and teddie bears are missing. Which might lead to that sort of thought.
Gee, typing this I have seen something here that might apply to others in general. Maybe we as humans need to get past looking at others at surface level. And try to understand more about what and why we think the way we so.

Gixxer, I think most people have almost the same opinion as you do about stunting. Stunting is great in the right place. But I also shake my head at some of the stunts I see teenagers trying on public roads. One nearly got hit by a van the other day when he was doing wheelies and swerved unexpectedly into the van's lane. So you are totally right that these stunting teens (and non-teens too) should find a deserted parking lot (or similar place) to practice their stunts.

I just find it stupid. By being "non-conformists", you are, in fact, conforming. I find it hard to understand why people WANT to slap labels on themselves. Some people have called me goth before, some have said I dress like a hippie. But in actuality, I wear what I like--I have never given myself a label and I think people who do are silly.
However, goths: satanic, blood drinkers, killers? There might be some like that out there, but definitely not all.

Probably it has something to do with the inability to spell "upon" correctly...
Just kidding.
Personally, I think its a pretty cool look, although I don't think I'm likely to dress "goth" to go to the office tomorrow....
...maybe for Halloween...
A lot of fundamentalists will say freaking panicky crap about anyone they see that looks in any way different from them. I think they suffer from some sort of mental illness that makes them behave that way.
Some people like to make fun of goths because goths tend to be rather melodramatic about stuff. Of course, all teens actually tend to be overly melodramatic. Goths really just tend to do it in a more artistic fashion that is easier to notice from a distance.
From what I've seen, goths aren't nearly as likely to be violent as most other cliques. Most fundamentalists wouldn't be interested in actually knowing anything about someone who is into goth, so they wouldn't realize that, of course.
Fundamentalists generally would much rather entertain themselves by criticizing things they know nothing about.

I don't. They may look evil and mean on the outside, but I've had some really good gothic friends in my life. They really aren't satanic, baby killers at all. Those are just people who are too sheltered to accept other people. Some people just like the look. lol

The media portrays goths as terrible people. They claim everyone from Manson to the Columbine kids are goth. Religious folk think we're Satanists because poseur goths support the claim.
Yes, some actually believe it.

i've never quite been able to figure it out myself. i don't think a majority of folks believe goths are evil, they just don't understand why someone whould choose to dress that way. i'm from the midwest and i used to get mistaken for goth because i had a predominantly black wardrobe and a penchant for unusual jewelry. i've even been asked if i drank blood before. i just don't get it. i'm not trying to conform or nonconform. i just wear what i feel comfortable in and i have a taste for some of the darker things in life, but i'd never go so far as calling myself goth.

People believe what they see. How are "goths"perceived in the movies, T.V., books, and the media? Where did they get those perceptions? It is commonly associated with evil and rebel attitudes. Sorry! It's kinda the same way with hippies and drugs. Not all hippies are drug users. So don't think your getting singled out.

I asked a few questions not to long ago about the Goth subculture and got wonderful answers.
I see now that Goths are great people, and i have nothing to be creeped out about when i see them on the street.
