these make up the three portions of the Asatru concept of time. COuld you explain to me what these three "Norns" mean???

Wyrd is the Norn of Past.

Verdrandi is the norn of present.

But as i understand it Skuld, is NOT future.

From what i have heard, the Asatruars don't believe the future has come yet therefore ther is no future, only past and the ever comming present.

(I will be asking more on this later.)

So what is Skuld???

Thanks!

You are right, she is not the future. Not in a Christian sense. Skuld is what is obligated to become. Since that is the case it is subjet to change. There is no predestiny.

There are possibly futures. They have no come to pass and we control what can and can not happen by our choices.

20. Thence come the maidens | mighty in wisdom,
Three from the dwelling | down 'neath the tree;
Urth is one named, | Verthandi the next,--
On the wood they scored,-- | and Skuld the third.
Laws they made there, and life allotted
To the sons of men, and set their fates

31. On all sides saw I | Valkyries assemble,
Ready to ride | to the ranks of the gods;
Skuld bore the shield, | and Skogul rode next,
Guth, Hild, Gondul, | and Geirskogul.
Of Herjan's maidens | the list have ye heard,
Valkyries ready | to ride o'er the earth
Voluspo, Poetic Edda

and Wyrd isn't a Norn....

It is what has happened, what is happening and as Tyr alluded to, what COULD happen. The Norns are named as Daughter described in Voluspa.

Wyrd is like your personal score, and all of your actions past and present are laid in the well, there is no "doing over", "taking back" or the like. Once something is in the well it's in there, your only hope of "fixing it"...even though you CANNOT, it's the only word I can think of to describe it... so to speak is to continuously put good things in the well. In other words you must lay good deeds on top of the bad one(s).

It is tied to your future but as I said, it is not fixed and it can be changed and only YOU can do so. Your wyrd can also be affected by the deeds and words of others.

Skuld is the future vision. She represents potential and what may yet be. She is a seeres of what may be. Unfortunatelly I dont belive any of their writtings are left around, so I cant tell you what kind of seeres she is. She could see what is most likelly out come, or see my see events. Its hard to say.
