Prosumer vs. DSLR

"prosumer" refers to a DSLR camera that is reasonably priced for the average consumer but has professional type functions on it! I use a Prosumer camera, because I can't afford a professional camera (upwards about 3-10K) so I spend about 1k on my camera, and another 1K on lenses and accessories....

The canon Digital Rebel XT, Canon D30, are all examples of prosumer cameras (which range between $700-$2000)....

What makes them cheaper, and not as professional, are the sensor sizes, as well as the MP count.

A prosumer camera might not be a SLR. The Canon Powershot G series, and the Nikon 5400 and 5800 fall into the "prosumer" category. I think it refers to cameras that are beyond simple point and shoot, but not the rugged high dollar ones the professionals use in their work. Many people consider any type of SLR to be "professional".
