If I am not mistaken the Aussy Ford Falcon has a v8 under the hood and probally doesn't get that great of gas mileage compared to the current American Ford midsized cars.
In America it is all about the averages across the board. So they can still sell the Expedition buses and 3/4 ton trucks that no one really uses only drives back and forth to work for a fashion statement then they have to cut corners in other car lines to get the average down.
Back in the 70's Aussy had the Ford 351C it might have been until the 80's. In America it was done away with by 73. If you look into Aussy pollution control on vehicles, I wouldn't be supprised if they aren't slightly more lenient on their manufactures. Mostly it depends on how much pollution they have and what the car to people ratio is in their area...

Because the Falcon platform is not left hand drive.
Anyway, with the CAFE fuel economy laws, getting away with selling a RWD sedan is becoming harder and harder. The Barra 240T is nice engine and I would love to see it here as a truck engine. The 2011+ (Orion succesor) Falcon will be sold in the US if they can get a break on import taxes. If not, it may not be here until 2012 when it can be built here.

Falcon got a bad rep back in the early 60s in the US. My father use to tell me that is why they made the Mustang 6 cyl to use up all the excess falcon parts.

The short answer is that we have the Mustang. And yes they are nice. The long answer is marketing, current budget woes and corporate blah blah blah.
Hey Chevy guy please do not bash Ford, they have been making vehicles longer than you , and the Mustang did Kill the Camero once already.

the Aussies don't care much about fuel ,mileage as we do . if that car replaced the Taurus i don't think nobody would have bitched about it because they are just beautiful cars. if they start importing those to the US they would have to put the steering wheel on the left side for US drivers, if i had the money i would have one imported with the 5.4L 300 HP engine and manual transmission
