As the article says, some people win, some lose by being married at tax time. Very true. One of the things the article didn't mention is the potential negative effect on EIC by getting married - it's not just high income people who tend to pay a penalty.

The penalty is there if both individuals work and have comparable benefits, earnings etc. Sure, if one spouse is a freeloader, then there is nothing but benefits. Thus, in conlusion, Congress supports freeloading!!!
