I got a new Sony Cybershot for my birthday in August, and dropped it just a few weeks later (on rocks!!) while I was camping! It worked fine afterwards though; even about a week ago it still worked. It looked fine too; just a couple tiny dents. But a couple days ago, I went to turn it on and it wouldn't go on... I thought maybe the battery might be dead?? It's a lithium ion though, and I didn't think they really died... I tried hooking it up to my computer and turning it on; nothing happened. I'm really upset because both my mother & I spent a lot of money on it, and it's so new and I love it... I do have a warranty but have to check the details, since I DID drop it, afterall... but I wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else? Any advice?!

I'm sorry to hear about your camera. I hate that sick feeling when I drop something and just know it's ruined! Take it to where it was bought, with the battery, and ask their advice. If it needs repair, prepare to pay nearly what the camera costs. It's an expensive lesson to learn, but you could ask your parents for a replacement for Christmas. And ask for a good strap and a nice padded case, too. Good luck!

First, make sure the battery is fully charged. If it is and the camera still won't turn on then its probably broken.

Your warranty will not cover abuse such as dropping it, getting it wet or getting sand or dirt in it. You can take it back to the store where you bought it and have them send it for an estimate. Its likely that repairs will equal or exceed the cost of a new camera.

In the future, keep your camera safe by using a neck strap. Your camera should be hanging around your neck when its not in your camera bag. In 36 years I have yet to drop a camera.

The battery probably just needs charged. They don't last forever.
