Do you think it's right that the Vatican is filled with UNBELIEVABLE amounts of wealth, gold, and priceless objects, while just outside there are starving beggars? I went to Italy this year and saw this for myself, hmmm, would Jesus approve?

There will always be poor among us. The Church does more to feed the poor than any group on earth. I think that Jesus would approve of what His Church is doing.

Should they sell all of the art to private collections? I think not. Should, or COULD, a priceless object have a price set upon it and then sold? That makes no sense.

So much of the wealth you see there is not easily converted into money.

I've been to the Vatican 3 times, with the last time being a little over a year ago. I don't recall seeing the streets lined with starving beggars. Perhaps we came in different entrances?

If the Vatican sold off every bit of treasure and property, they could feed the poor and hungry of the world....for about 20 minutes!

Christ Himself said we would ALWAYS have the poor among us. The mission of the Chruch is to spread the Gospel and care for the poor...but NOT to eliminate poverty- especially when Christ Himself said that could never be done!

...and if all those treasures were sold off, they would end up in the hands of private collectors and would never see the light of day again....and poor slobs like you and me would never have the opportunity to be a foot away from the Pieta or gaze in wonder at the Cistine Chapel.

Those treasures are for the whole world- and THAT is why the Catholic - UNIVERSAL- Church has them- for US!

I have never heard a priest tell me that I need to give a minimum of 10%.

I have never heard a hour long sermon from a priest that told me I have to pray about what to give.

the Catholic church does more to help the poor and needy than any group on the planet.

Of course it then comes down to what do we do on an individual level to help the poor and needy.

Do you hand the homeless person 5$ and say god bless have a meal or a drink. Do you walk past the homless person and give them a couple of cans of beer to ease their sadness.

I beg to differ, I believe the United States helps the world more than the Vatican. How do you think the Vatican would keep control over millions of followers without billions of dollars to do it with.

Since the Catholic Church provides far more human services to the poor and needy of the world than ALL other churches COMBINED, I'd say they are being excellent stewards of whatever "wealth" they have been blessed with.
