Here's the link to the website which tells you what you're allowed to bring on a flight. I hope this answers your question.

You are only allowed to take one piece of hand luggage which means if you have a handbag it must fit inside your larger hand luggage. There is a maximum weight for hand luggage but this varies with the airline so best to check and weigh it. You can bring liquids as long as they are not more than 150ml per container and these must be in a clear plastic bag presented separately from your hand luggage. Bear in mind that you can bring anything onto the aircfraft you buy once through security so if you can't bear to be without your huge atomiser or want to bring drinks then just buy them at the stores once you've gone through the x-ray section. You also can't bring anything sharp such as knives, needles, gas cylinders for hair appliances, lighters, matches, metal nail files or nail clippers. You can bring medicine and hypodermic needles such as epipens if you have a doctor's letter explaining that you may need it on the flight.
It seems so pointless to me that you're not allowed to bring a nail file but are allowed to bring a litre of Gin in a glass bottle from duty free. Surely a broken gin bottle is more dangerous than a nail file!!!

You can have:
-a bag which will fit in the overhead locker or under your seat
-Liquids which are in containers that hold no more than 150mls per item, and all liquid items must be able to fit in a clear plastic bag about 20cmx20cm. Even if you have a 200ml bottle of coke, and you have drunk half of it, you still can not take it on the plane.
- anything that inst a lighter, razor, gun, knife etc...

You can normally take one carry-on bag no larger than what would fit in the over-head compartment or underneath your seat + you can take 1 personal item such as a laptop.

Regulations vary according to UK, Europe or USA.
Also some airlines have different rules for carryon luggage.
Some one carry on plus laptop, coat, umbrella etc., others max one item of carry on
Best to check with your airline.
