I think it would all depend on the individual dog's head formation. I like all three cuts.

With my girl, they did a show crop, it fits her head well, I actually had the vet copy her mothers crop because she looks a lot like her dam in the head. My boys ears are a little bit shorter because his head is shorter and broader, it would still be considered a show crop but fits his head. A good cropping vet will be able to judge what best fits the puppies head, I prefer a longer crop with a smaller bell. Ask for pictures and chose a crop that looks right and think about what the parents heads look like and decide what will fit him best. Medium crops look very good on a lot of dogs, I like the length but they usually have too much bell. If I could describe a medium length crop with less bell that would be my first choice. I also had my vet match the shape of the crop on my boy with my girls ears so they would match better lol. There are a lot of considerations in cropping. The medium will stand easier than the show but I still think the show looks more elegant. Dont do a "military crop" it's not as pretty and you might end up with a pitbull crop which just doesnt look right on a doberman. They look better with longer ears I think it also helps them with sound location to have a longer ear.

If the dog has a beautiful head and a good ear set a show crop can look really good. For a pet natural ears are fine.
I like the cropped look personally. But would never crop a dog beyond puppyhood.
Cropping a dog with a poor ear set and ending up with floppy cropped ears is a waste of money.

I prefer 'natural' as well -- which is actually erect in nature so in order to achieve that very functional attribute, I get my dogs cropped. The crop should be done by someone who knows what they are doing and has an eye for it -- too short or too long extremes are not asthetically pleasing. Some of the show crops are getting too long and bandy but a good crop should fit the dog and balance the head. The short crops just look pathetic for the most part and 'military' is what some vet that doesn't know what they are doing calls his crop to make the people he is cropping for think they are getting something official! haha For the most par questions about cropping are pretty much inciting and since most people get dogs for companions, and for the most part from irresponsible breeders, then personal preferences regarding crops just lead to a barrage of fools spewing their extremist animal rights bs, as if no one knew that they would prefer uncropped - what they call 'natural' that really isn't :) Also the run of the mill internet animal rights proponent don't even realize that their silliness about cropping is simply a precursor to the actual end of eliminating any companion animal ownership at all. Most of them wouldn't be so quick to be militantly opposed to freedom of choice regarding these issues if they knew in the end they wouldn't have the right to have Poopsie or Cuddles at all...
Buy from a responsible breeder and the puppy will already be professionally cropped and you don't have to hunt and likely find some vet that is a wanna be but poor cropper.

I have always gotton the Military crop on my dobies, But as you can see <<<<< My dobie I have now has floppy ears because I perfered it. But my favorite which I havent gotton because their harder to stand are Show crop. Very beautiful, I just love the elegance of it. I debated between Cropping my dobie I have now<< or not.
The crop I would have went with is a show crop because of the structer of his face and jaw/body is beautiful and masculin and would have been perfect. But I just decided to keep them down because it gave him a softer look, and people wont run in fear because hes very big. But It really depends on the dog, and you have to be a real Doberman person to have the "Eye' of knowing whats is and isnt good.

I prefer the medium, but that's just my opinion. The military can look a bit scary and the show makes them look like little cartoon elves to me. Any look fine though. And I've seen dobe's without their ears cropped and they often get mistaken for mixed breeds... apparently some people think their ears are born like that.

I like the military and show crop depending on the dogs head, although I get critisised at work for even having my dogs tail docked - ridiculous imagine if HIS ears were cropped my name would be mud!!!!!! People who do not have dogs whose appearance has been traditionally altered do not and cannot understand.......... People have plastic surgery so why not dogs too?
These people should not judge upon subjects about which they know nothing!!!!

I did our doberman's ears at 8 weeks, we were totally done in four weeks and they always stay up; I can't tell you how many compliments I've had on what a beautiful dog she is. As for style, with us, her ears were not that big and their size really dictated their shape.
