I was wondering if dying hair with Indigo and Henna (black henna) is permanent or how long does the color last? Also can it be darkened gradually instead of all at once?

Thanks!

henna is a permanent dye but it will fade. I've used henna at least a few times now and what i reccomend is to visit www.hennaforhair.com and check the mix guides so you can sorta plan out how u want hair to look after the application and days after. because the first few days you'll get a really deep hue then it will brighten up and eventually, say weeks in, the color will fade into something a little more natural looking. you'll want to re-apply color every month or so, but it's not particularily easy to keep the color you want. ~hope u have better luck than I did with it :p

Both henna and indigo are permanent. Do not use them unless you want a permanent color. In ways they are more permanent than a box of commercial dye. Bleaching or stripping henna leaves orange, bleaching indigo makes green or blue, so if you tried to remove henna and indigo you're likely to get a gross combination of orange/green. Neither washes out or fades, so stick with dyes labeled semi-permanent or demi-permanent. As to the first answer, PPD is in ALL permanent commercial hair dyes, and lots of other non-permanent ones as well. So avoiding something labeled "black henna" won't help you avoid PPD unless you don't use any type of synthetic hair dye as well. PPD basically IS black hair dye, and it's in all colors of dye, not just the darkest shades.

Not only is this permanent but once put on the hair it will not come out and don't even think of putting color on it to correct it because you will be lucky if you have any hair left.
