Everytime I go to the vet, I ask to see the kitties. They have a kill shelter and even though I am full (5 cats) I always go back to see. I also always end up sad. Today there was Mom and 4-2 day old babies set to be put down tomorrow. I know they have to do it but it's so sad. I wish I could help but I'm too full to even foster. Can it be said enough to spay your pets?

I know how you feel! We have five dogs and one cat. Each of the neighbors has adopted a cat :) and still their are more. Every time we haul another off to the humane society I speak to every homeless waif there, then walk out feeling miserable.

I was just on another site in which the author told everyone the "evils" of nuetering/spaying. I have a hard time swallowing such swill!

I have a colony of almost 30 cats and I am trying to fund a no-kill rescue with my children's help. We have had cats dropped off right in front of us before, some pregnant and many with tail injuries. Each of our cats gets their shots and "fixed" because we know there will be more showing up. There always is.

Your story broke my heart. We had one Momma kitty who lost one kitten back in May. Even with the many mouths we feed, this one baby meant so much to us. We worked on it for the better part of an hour and were in contact with our veterinary office. We did as much as we could but this little one did not stay on this earth. My point is, that each life is precious. If prevention is available, before life begins, our family will use it.

If you have time available, check into opening your own no-kill shelter. Some of the suggestions we have recieved is to make it an educational center. This allows for more funding and can help prevent the loss of life I believe we are all trying to stop. And ADVERTISE!! Newspapers, bulletin boards, handouts, whatever will work for your area. Recruit volunteers for fostering. Check into sponsorships from local businesses for buildings and/or materials. Many businesses like the personal referrals...word of mouth. And your favorite pet food has incentives for bigger "families", we clip proof of purchases and recieve coupons which saves us six dollars each bag. Ask the veterinarian for a reduced cost spay and neuter clinic to be held twice a year.

Research and push for a better environment for our pets and don't give up when you see that wall in front of you. If one says no, go to another and keep going.

Like Big Weld said in Robots, "See a need, fill a need." Good Saving!!

Well, I would say don't go there. The vets have no choice is there isn't a humane society around. They can't possibly feed all the cats.
Yes, people should take responsibility and fix their animals, dogs and cats alike. I am a firm believer in fixing animals and controlling the animal population. I have seen too many animals in the pound that need homes. I will never get an animal from a pet store for that reason alone.

I am so tender-hearted when it comes to any kind of animal that I can't bear to even think of the lives that are lost at kill shelters everyday. It was always my dream as a child to grow up and be a veterinarian, and when I got old enough, I got a job as a vet's assistant. That's where the dream ended for me right there. There is nothing more pitiful than seeing kittens and puppies put to sleep. I donate as much money as I can to shelters where they will live long, happy lives, and hopefully someday will be adopted.

It's better to just leave them alone, spay them and leave them as feral cats. I don't accept that kill shelters are humane or do a good job. Stray animals didn't ask for our help to be killed. They could release them near farms etc, where people will feed them, after they are spayed.

This kind of thing is sick, anyone who's ever worked at a shelter knows that kittens always go first. Why the hell, even in a kill shelter, is anyone even considering putting these animals down? Please support your local non kill shelter, with more money and more volunteers they can take in more animals.

I have a feral cat{kitten} in my area I feel sick about, but my Stimpy{indoor cat} has sneaked past me and chases her off. I want to help and I'm looking for a local farmer who would like another barnyard cat. My cat is JEALOUS. So yes I do know how it pains you.

Nooo
that's what I do when I go to the vet. It sucks so much to see all of those abandoned cats.
