For reference see the following verses:
"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."

"Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man." (Colossians 4:6).

"Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?" (Luke 14:34).

"For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt." (Mark 9:49).

"And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt." (Leviticus 2:13).

"But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." (Genesis 19:26).

"And thou shalt offer them before the LORD, and the priests shall cast salt upon them, and they shall offer them up for a burnt offering unto the LORD." (Ezekiel 43:24).

suzanne-perhaps you should look at ALL the verses dealing with the word salt... Please note that if one preaches a gospel without mentioning the judgment of God (hell, damnation), you have not given the true Gospel.

Also note that when an army was victorious over another, they ususally spread salt over the land. Salt makes the land desolate-nothing is able to grow, ie., judgment.

O Rikey- the Bible tells us NOT to trust in man! Are you sure that your "theologian" is saved? The Bible is the authority. That is why the Lord tells us to dearch the Scriptures (John 5:39) and to study (2 Timothy 2:15).

Randy-I suggest you go through the Bible and look at ALL the verses with the word "salt" in it. Then ask God to give you understanding. Bible study takes much time and prayer.

Little Lamb-"salt" has to do with judgment or the wrath of God. Many people tell others that "God loves everybody and that He died for everybody." They have not given the true Gospel because they have left out "salt" or the judgment of God. Sin is transgression of the law of God... And there is a penalty for breaking God's law and that is eternal damantion or hell. When people are told about God's wrath, they get upset or even mad... They want to hear the nice things about God but they do not want to hear about the severe penalty for breaking God's commandments. In the Bible verses I have given the Lord tells us if the salt has lost it's saltiness, it is good for nothing but to be trampled under foot.

This is what happens when a person gives a false gospel and does not tell the whole counsel of God. Jesus spoke more about hell than anything and the religious leaders of his day hated Him.

Little Lamb-If we really care about people we need to warn them about hell. Look what God says in 2 Corinthians 2:15-17, "For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
16To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
17For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ."

If we love the Lord and our neighbor, we need to warn them about hell and Judgment Day.

grace-I know that you mean well but we need to go by what the Bible says. Look at all the verses with "salt" in them. Then read 2 Corinthians 2:15-17.

In some of them verses, it also means the neccesity of life. But, some do mean judgement.

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."

Christians are the salt of the earth, as salt is needed by the body.

Lot's wife, who was turned into a pillar of salt when she disobeyed the angels and looked back at the wicked city of Sodom (Genesis 19:26) This proves salt was used as judgement.

Salt does not imply judgement in any of the verses you quoted. You are correct that salt is a preservative. The bloody sacrifices proscribed by Leviticus had to be salted before either being burned up or boiled (depending on which sacrifice it was). This was merely a symbol of what was to come.

Actually, the judgement was demonstrated by the act of sacrifice; the "good news" (Gospel) was symbolized by the salt. Since born again Christians are saved ("preserved") by this good news and we are commanded to proclaim it, we are now the "salt" of the earth. But if we lose our motivation to proclaim the good news, we have lost our "saltiness" and are good for nothing.

EDIT: Stop reading Harold Camping, LatterRain. He is a false teacher and false prophet. And when you quote his false teachings, YOU become a false teacher, too!

I believe GOD'S word should be salted with truth,in the way we explain the truth ,and express our selves. You want the word of GOD to taste good,so when you tell people about it ,they want more. It's not "bland ".Hey"that was good feed me more.GOD told Peter to feed my sheep, feed them with truth salted with kindness .I suggest you study Hell and Damnation .Where did JESUS CHRIST in his TRUE GOSPEL teach this ???GOD is judge .PEACE WITH A LITTLE SALT

No, I don't know and neither understand. Before closing your question please explain. Never did I hear anyone teach about "salt". Interesting.

No, salt implies "purity" not "judgment". You have misunderstood the Bible, I believe.

Perhaps you should check with someone "of the cloth"
or a theologian --- your interpretation seems way off the
course to me.
