I work for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and we do a breakfast program, every week, and I need to know some quick and easy games to do before school starts. There are about 8 or 9 kids, and we don't have much space to do this stuff in. Any other activities would be appreciated, as well.
Thanks.

These games are also played while sitting at lunch tables, in a lunch room full of other kids.

Any board games would be a good idea. (candy land, shutes and Ladders) Card games is also a good idea (uno,go fish)

drawing pictures or coloring is cool with that age group.

Painting flower pots or wooden boxes. Making book marks for reading.

The alphabet game is always fun and is great for memory:

First child starts by saying "I went to the store and bought (something starting with the letter A) Apples.

The next child has letter B but must also repeat the previous listed items. Ex. " I went to the store and bought apples and bananas"

The list goes on and each child must repeat each item on the list followed by an item using the next letter in the alphabet. Its a fun game and even I enjoy playing it at 25 =)

I'm not really sure if you eman game systmem or game but I think system for a portable one, I'd suggest Nintendo DS lite's they have LOTS of game that they would like (Mario for sure and probably Donkey Kong) regular I'd suggest Wii's or Xbox 360's or PS3 look at the games for each one to decide

Mother May I, Simon Says, Telephone, Hot Potato, Duck Duck Goose, card/board games, fingerplays (like Wheels on the Bus, but there are older ones out there for this age group - check your library or internet - things like "YMCA" work too), silly songs to sing & move to (the sillier the better - my boys have one that's "Stinky, Stinky Diaper Change" that they love, and even make up their own lyrics), bubbles, art/science projects you've planned out beforehand, etc.

Good luck! (:

Duck duck goose! (classic) , I spy, Charades, Mother may I, Simon Says - I know all these are older games - but I still have many fun memories of these growing up. I still play them with my children. They are 5 and 9. Oh - and musical chairs...always fun - u can play it with tiles on the floor or swatches or whatever - u dont need chairs.

My two recommended ones,
Heads Up 7 Up-You pick seven kids(less in this case, probably 3)and the rest of the kids put their heads down and put their thumbs up.The kids go put 1 thumb down per person. Then they say "heads up,stand up"and if their thumb was down, the guess who did it. If they get it right, they take that kids place. It's fun!
Telephone!-You think of a sentance/word/phrase like "Supercalifragilistic"and whisper it into one kids ear and hear what comes out when they are all done. It's really weird to hear what comes out.

my kids have always liked to do the story telling, where one kid starts a story and the next kid will continue and so and so on. they love trying to make it as silly as they can. telephone, where you whisper something in ones ear and the kids will continue from kid to kid and by the end its nothing close to the original whisper.20 questions. good luck and have fun!!
