My husband is possibly going to get an offer for us to move to Romania. The thing is, we're needing to continue receiving some of the items that we're getting now (ex: my daughter is allergic to milk and soy so she needs Rice Dream Milk, we use all natural Melaleuca house cleaning products, need that shipped).
Is there a way for us to establish an APO, FPO, or some other kind of post box where we can have these items shipped to us? I can get the items from the UK (items shipped to a box in the UK, then shipped to Romania), is there something set up in the UK where our items can be shipped to Romania? (both companies: Rice Dream & Melaleuca do not personally send to Romania)

Asked a friend and fellow employee of my husband's and this is what I got:

i wouldn't count on anything important like that making it in the mail overseas. esp. if you are going to the EU. there are some stringent int'l laws on importation of chemicals, food products, etc. that may be difficult. the best way to do it is to (1) put LOADS of each in your shipment when headed over and (2) rely on trips back and forth to stock up - whether it be you guys or friends/family coming to visit. each time you travel to the States, count on taking an empy suitcase per person on the way over so that you can fill up on stuff to take back - there will be items that you wouldn't have even thought you would miss that you will want and then things are just cheaper here so you will find it hard to pay the prices there, esp. for the girls' clothing, supplies, etc. and you know you will come back at least once a year, if not more, so that is not un-doable.

We currently live in the US, but husband works for a co that transfers every 2-3 yrs., it would only put us overseas for the same amt. of time. Co. pays handsomely to those that live overseas, so we'd be compensated for our time and heartache (although Romania is actually quite nice and the American school is superb).

APO mail is for military and military contractors - I was under a contract at one point and had an APO box,

Check with the company you're going to work for, and with the US State Department. I don't think you should have a problem with shipping, but talk with people on the ground and see what the local conditions are. You might also find what you need is available there - or in Europe, rather than shipping from the US.

Romania may not be California, but it's not sub-Saharan Africa either.

Army Post Office and Fleet Post Office. Military only I'm afraid. But Romania does have a civilian postal service that does business with the UK postal service. So you should not have a problem. Find a company that handles those products and ships internationally. Or a friend in the UK who will forward them to you. Where do you buy them now?

Sorry,
APO means Army Post Office and FPO means Fleet Post Office

You can, however, set up Postal Service, FedEx,UPS or others in UK and/or Romania

This is a very peculiar problem. I don't know how to advise other than to contact the state dept when you get to Romania. The US
embassy or consulate. But I am curious. I will star this question to see what kind of answers you will get.

APO and FPO is ONLY for the US Military
See if you can have these items send to a family member and they will send it on to you

Of course not. Use your address when you get there. Why would you want to go to such a depressed country anyway?
